my 2026 new year’s resolution is to pick up other people‘s dog shit and trash with pure joy in my heart to care for the earth.
Where life finds root upon the stone— a seed grateful for driftwood's dust where the ancient cedar's journey ends in a final gift, upon a rock that knows only cold and sun. The forest's slow, eternal breath turns all things to soil in faith of the seed and ever makes a new world from what was lost.
the earth is an embarrassment of riches. the magic of a sunrise is all i really need… the sound on this clip are the happy birds floating in these waters singing their praise for the new day. also several whales were breathing their massive breaths but i could never see them thru the morning mists.
scene from morning paddle… the light on the water was mesmerizing. #cortesisland
bella exploring low tide at botanical beach near port renfrew (in the territory of the Pacheedaht and Lkwungen First Nations) yesterday… it was nice to have low clouds misting us on and off as we explored the tidepool mysteries that are so full of urchins and anemones!!
Bella enjoying the early evening sunshine in the woods behind our house
me and bella communing with nature on mount wells amidst the sacred arbutus and oak tree friends. i’m told that the indigenous peoples of the Nuu-chah-nulth nation refer to the arbutus tree as "tl'owit", which I am told means ‘bark tree’. #happydog
bella exploring the juan de fuca trail on western vancouver island with the olympic mountains visible in the far distance #happydog aside from the beauty, i especially appreciated that the temp was only 18 degrees celsius on july 16th.
I love them. they are the tallest/oldest beings we know. they inhabit an almost timeless realm where even death lasts longer than most other lives. in a world focused on the fastest, these ancient sentinels build their sandcastles in the sky. always giving. even as they disappear… #treehugger
spectacular trail magic✨ yesterday! we were hiking in the rain looking for the oldest spruce tree in washington when the sun suddenly pierced the grey day with a vivid brillance like a portal opening into another dimension.
One amazingly obvious, yet overlooked, fact that plants teach us is that being in the right place at the right time means a whole lot… ps. additional thoughts about how this realtes to biological determinism and free will in the alt txt of the picture.
waterfall into the snow on the heliotrope ridge trail yesterday. the snow is melting fast now. i’m continually amazed that once the snow melts it will be in the ocean with maybe two hours… the circle of life is so very cool. #happydog
i love how bella gets dew freckles from her morning sniffs 😍
the word ‘blessing’ carries, perhaps, too heavy a lift…

the japanese concept of wabi-sabi that looks for beauty in life’s imperfections. because you see what you look for… so why not look for beauty?

this happy little moss was having a splendid day along the nooksack cirque trail yesterday “the goodness of the world grows like moss… nourished by something unseen.” -k. bishop
a view from today’s hike along the gorgeous nooksack river… trail thoughts were focused on appreciating the incredible amount of power within our intentions… we can manifest our reality!! deep dive on that thought — it goes deep… ✌️
to see with a staggering wonder, imagine that you live there. and, that you love it with all your heart. because it is your home. however small of a critter you’d need to be to feel this spot is heaven. don’t move until you see it. practice this often.
