This past weekend, together with members of the Green Mountain Knitting Guild, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Michele of @woolensandnosh.bsky.social & touring her dye facility. What an inspiring visit! So much goes into making her self-striping skeins of yarn! So grateful for the experience.

Michele walks us through the process of hand dyeing yarn, inch by inch. She also explains the type of dyes she uses, along with her process for creating the beautiful color combinations she gets. Michele is shown here wearing an adorable printed pair of overalls over a striped long sleeve shirt. She has black gloves on as she pulls golden dyed yarn out of a bath removing much of the water it has absorbed, and then transfers it into another colored bath.

Here, Michele shows us how she warps the yarn, winding it around this wooden frame, in preparation for making finished skeins. Getting it all to line up nicely so that it will easily spin to draw the yarn through the winder takes time and patience.
