"Is badass hyphenated" - one of the many search queries I make as a game designer.
For those what are interested, my end of month review (posted, as is typical for me, in the first few days of the next month.)
Belated, but bustling. I've got enough irons in the fire to be a whole forge. www.vertexrim.com/april-may-re...
Slightly diminish a book Nona the Eighth
Slightly diminish a book The Adequate Mr. Ripley
I am CACTUS JACK, desert ironclad beetle, wrestling for supremacy of the board. (Kabuto Sumo, Allplay, formerly BoardGameTables.com)
I've been playing with Alchemy a bit recently. It's a really nice VTT. If you play Blades and like VTTs, check it out. :)
We’re excited to announce the release of one of the most influential and innovative tabletop RPGs of the past decade, Blades in the Dark by @evilhat.bsky.social! With brand new capabilities never before seen on Alchemy like a Guided Character Generator & more!⚔️
Okay. uh. So I made a thing. Why is this so fun to play with?
I don't post much during April 1st—the signal to noise ratio isn't great—but imposter syndrome says today's a good day to show art. I'm experimenting with this photo-turned-graphic-novel style and some of the stuff is coming out nice. (Yes—that's an emdash—I use emdashes now—I'm hip and cool.)
WHAT AREN'T THEY TELLING YOU? Read the TRUTH inside! #amwriting #blades68
I was a bit mid on the temp logo for Piece of Work, but uh. Well, on the right background, the thing slaps. Take a look. (Background cc-by from www.vecteezy.com/free-vector/...)
A cozy game of Down Stream by Firestarter Games on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
Some of the deeper thoughts I had about Breakout and some updates about what I'm up to, if you want those. :)
March Musings! www.vertexrim.com/march-review/
Sitting in YYZ, waiting for the plane to take me home. It's been an amazing trip. Reading this gem Dead Orbit Mall and grinning about the past future of my childhood, Nintendo power gloves and all.
Breakout Con 2026, a thread. Context: Breakout is a Toronto-based gaming convention with a focus on board games. It runs at the same time as Comic Con, but is unaffiliated.
Also the Air Canada logo is cyberpunk as hell, this goes unnecessary hard
So I'm gonna be at Breakout this weekend (surprise) but don't tell anyone, it's super low key
As promised, the blog. tl;dr - I'm hard at work on Piece of Work, and there's that Blades '68 thing. The rest, I'm putting on hold for now.
What I've been up to during my hibernation months: www.vertexrim.com/winter-wande...
Eee! I am delighted to share some half-baked ravings. Arguably it's what I do best. If that's your sort of project, go back it. :) There's a LOT of cool names on the list. www.backerkit.com/c/projects/e...
Hey, so this is quality work and worth your eyeballs. If you haven't heard of it yet (which seems impossible), take a look!
LIVE NOW! Blades '68 grabs the setting of Blades in the Dark and catapults it forward into the swinging 60s. Tense spy operations, action-packed heists, and brain-twisting paranormal encounters all mix in this 450-page expansion. Join the electroplasmic revolution: www.backerkit.com/c/projects/e...
I'll be updating the blog soon with more details but here's a slice:
Motivation strugglebus today. Trying to motivate myself but don't have enough motivation to even go to the motivation store and get more motivation.
So uh. I may have accidentally gotten hyperfocused on layout out Piece of Work. I'm not sorry.
Going through the new security trainings at work, and with a straight face they suggested that protecting myself against generative AI, I should establish secret code words with my friends so I can check when they send me weird messages if it's really them. We're cooked fam. Absolutely cooked.
Cozy, working on games, doing writing sprints with @nicolejleboeuf.bsky.social, Holland at the corner of the table, a wintery fire in the background. Life isn't perfect, but this moment is.
Today in ADHD adventures: I have been trying to order a belt online for about 2 hours now.
In retrospect, getting a flu vaccine and a COVID booster on the same day was quite ambitious.
