One of my grumpy writer pet peeves: phonetic spelling. My skin crawls at the sight of any "yer" or "fer" or "li'l" or "runnin'" or whatever. You can create a sense of dialect through phrasing alone.
Ed is one of our very favourites, so we were thrilled when he agreed to write a Wind&Root column for us. Come over and read "My Review" by E.A. Aymar.
Absolutely there for a reason though! We get some stuff in the pile (*cough*hard sci-fi, harlequin romance *cough*) where it is painfully obvious the submitter has never engaged with Reckon beyond our Duotrope listing.

Sad about the Wiseman news. The Monrovia, Indiana documentary was a partial catalyst for my interest in regional/rural representation during grad school.
Im always drawn to a strong sense of place, which to me means that the setting of story is so integral to the characters and events that it couldn't happen anywhere else. Today's story by @wilsonkoewing.bsky.social is an excellent example of that. 📚 #litfic
