What's been your favorite prop, handout, or tool a GM has given you that really added that extra bit of immersion to a campaign? Currently toying with ideas for what I can give players in my virtual D&D campaign beyond the map and pantheon diagram I have so far #ttrpg #DM #GM

I’ve personally been one to shamelessly reference movies and shows in my TTRPG campaigns (ie two recurring NPCs named Inigo and Fezzik, and a hook shot item for a Zelda fan in the party), but what do y’all think? Are references like that a fun addition, or do they take you out of the game?

Just played the Cosmere RPG at a friendly local free RPG day event and had a great time! I really enjoyed their take on the D20 system. Sometimes a very specific magic system like surgebinding is just what you need to get players to be creative and work together with their allies

I’m planning to run an upcoming fight as a show fight, where the competitor’s first goal is to impress a noble rather than to just knock their foes unconscious. The party wins the fight by scoring more points, which represents which side the noble was more impressed by (1/3)

#Dnd5e historically included flaws in character creation, but they never matched systems like World of Darkness and were later abandoned. They sometimes came into play in my campaigns at low levels, but were usually forgotten without any defined mechanic to celebrate the character outgrowing them.

What’ve been your favorite tricks and memories of political intrigue from a D&D campaign? Or, any lessons from games like Vampire the Masquerade that would translate well? I have a setting idea I’d love to run, but I want to make sure it’s fun for the players too! #d&d #dungonmasters

Fellow #GM folks - what tricks have you found helpful to get players comfortable with roll play? I’ve had some success in letting a more expressive player interact with an NPC, and then having the NPC ask quieter player about the same topic so everyone has a model to work from.
