It was a real pleasure to serve on the Berton House jury for this, the Writers' Trust's 50th year. The selection was incredibly difficult! Congratulations to the four finalists, and I hope they find their time in Dawson City as stimulating, and life-changing, as I did.

Announcing the Berton House Writers’ Residency program 2026 writers-in-residence! These four Canadian writers will travel to Dawson City, Yukon, to live and work for two months in the childhood home of legendary Canadian author, and Writers’ Trust co-founder, #PierreBerton.

"They invite you into their global village, a microcosm of Canada, to sit at the Pit. They incite you into the wilds, into the mountains to pick cranberries, and onto the tundra to listen to silence.” – Angela Long, Writer to Writer: long legacy of the letters at Berton House.

A manuscript sits on a desk in front of a typewriter. Someone walks down a nature trail, hands in their pockets. Sprawling landscape of rolling hills and a large river. Old fashioned shops lining a street.
