Captivated by this story from January 21st, 1884 (about a year before the fall of Khartoum to the Mahdi) that is written exactly like flavor text for one of those random event popups in a turn-based strategy game. “Some strong influence is at work.”

That Weird Chicago Submarine Lady; also, a literal coyote who can type. Writing dog, history geek; she/her/DOG/etc. Romance at short notice is my specialty; deep space is my dwelling place, but I keep a flat in Berlin. Solidarity forever!
Oh, hey. Apparently today is Colorado’s 150th birthday. Happy birthday, Colorado! I love you and the idiot dogs with which you regularly present me when I visit <3

waiting for the pair of SSKs to get picked up by hydrophones in the GIUK gap so I can designate the new so sus contacts as sierra 6………7
Cats are too obvious. I want furries to show me the dog masseur who stands on your boob and wobbles unsteadily to *really* dig their claws in before maybe fleabiting your neck for a good five or ten minutes.
The only *possible* consent is between author and reader. Works of fiction, and characters in them, cannot do so, because *they cannot think*. A half-gnoll pirate has the exact capacity to enter contracts as the meat pie I wrote them eating for breakfast, or the tiller I wrote them holding: none.
as a fan of noncon, dubcon and under/non-negotiated cnc this is honestly one of the most straightforward explanations of this i've ever read?
There are a bunch of herons out in the fields this morning and then I saw two huge ones out with the others and I am so tired my thought process went: “Are those… boss herons..?” “…Oh right, emus.”
Helpful tip if it’s your first time traveling in Germany or—apparently—being in public and encountering The Wonder of Stairs That Move By Magic: if you get to the bottom and stop dead with your luggage in front of an actively boarding long-distance train, I am allowed to push you onto the tracks :)
PM is in my news recs a lot—because I’m a sucker—and now it’s *always* a two-sentence headline about a mystery they’ve “just” solved. “1500 people died when Titanic sank. New research shows what killed them.” “In 1934, William Carlos Williams ate some plums. Scientists now say they know why.” &c
I say “trip” because it comes up so much in my research. Old PopMech is entirely: 1. Insane Colin-Furze-fever-dream “DIY” projects played straight 2. Artist concepts of the patent or invention some guy at the bar told them about 3. Stupid clickbait lifehacks 4. Starry-eyed futurism I love it :P
It will be my birthday and since the last catastrophe to happen on August 6th was the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, I really expect you all to do something cool this time :) :) :)
oh man passing through the 180 day lockup gate is gonna be a fucking bloodbath lol
Me, in my weekly 1:1 with my manager, catching myself midway through explaining a project proposal at old-timey auctioneer speeds: “…I am extremely wired and I have no idea why.” Me, immediately after leaving my weekly 1:1 with my manager: <reflexively goes to the machine to make a cup of coffee>

In the early 1960s, a sasquatch-like creature haunted Conser Lake, near Albany. Then it vanished—and so, it seems, did Conser Lake. Join me on a journey through Oregon history, folklore, toxic waste, moonshiners, old maps… and a lake that definitely existed, but can’t be found on any of them.

Hormuz *and* Kerch, eh? I regret to inform you the straits are at it again.
I get why submarine sims do it, but I will never not find it funny how every game has a map full of trawlers with zero self-preservation for you to find on the hydrophones while looking for the Red October. WW3 kicks off and they’re just like “no reason as us can’t catch summat for t’ missus :D”
Happy birthday, America :3 Please end the 4th with the same number of fingers and things on fire that you started it with <.<
Rewatching Jurassic Park, I am convinced it is just Starship Troopers: a fun movie, but also a terrible adaptation of a decent book by a director who fundamentally did not understand the source material, wanted to make a B-movie about alien monsters eating people, and had rights to the name :P
Oh hey! If you (like me) think “Farewell of Slavianka” is a banger but has some unfortunate connotations due to its ongoing association with the Russian Army, I have good news: another version—בין גבולות (Ben Gvulot, “Between borders”)—also exists, having been written in 1945 for the Palmach XD
I do like how the way you’re taught to say “excuse me” in German is „entschuldigung“ but how you actually say it is „sowwy“
Exceptional work, Finnair, at blowing three people off so they missed their flight and then getting huffy at them for not shouting at you about the urgency of the situation (???) Excellent service, no notes. Hyvä :D 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
time 2 get dudameled like a cultured person or an average dog
Mission accomplished! I no longer know my master password, or my work password, and no longer need to. I just have to plug in this highly-trustworthy-looking thing that enumerates as a normal keyboard but outputs only specific text, based on which code is active and how long the trigger is held >:D
