Every time I read Poe I realize that I really should read Poe more often
✨ Grace is Querying ✨

Speculative fiction writer. She/her. I also will talk your ear off about knitting, crocheting, and fountain pens (bonus topics available as unlockable content). Be excellent to each other.
I need to make a map for my current WIP. I'm planning to use the dice method, but do you have any other methods you like? This one needs plenty of oceans. #worldbuilding #writingcommunity #writesky
Writing more than usual with my fountain pens today because I want to finish up these summer ink colors and transition to the fall palette. A shallow motivation, but if it works it works. #amwriting #writesky
The woods are dark, but something darker lurks within the ruined temple. If there were another choice, they never would have come here. #wipsnips #amwriting #writingcommunity #dark #writesky #fantasy
I love being able to trace the moment I fell irrevocably in love with a character, and I just hit it on my Star Trek Voyager rewatch: "There's coffee in that nebula." #ohcaptainmycaptain Quote post this with your moment! When did that character become your blorbo?
You will never guess which crochet project has spent the entire summer languishing. (And it’s staying in timeout until the weather cools down!)
The problem with big crochet projects like blankets is that if I don't manage to finish the project before summer starts, it will have to wait until fall because I Cannot sit buried in a wool blanket in the heat
I’m still putting together this list! It’s a mix of knitting and crochet patterns. I’ll include ravelry links.
I'm thinking I'll throw together a pattern round up of end of summer knitting and crochet pattern ideas to share what I've found, because on no planet do I have time to make them all! But I am also looking for recommendations. What's on your hook/needles in these dog days of summer?
Would you rather have 100 fountain pen sized guys or one guy sized fountain pen?
*knitting a stuffed witch* ah yes, my witch craft
Reminder: 1. You don't need to have an opinion on everything, especially stuff you don't know enough about 2. You don't need to have a PUBLIC opinion on everything 3. It's okay to focus on one or two things and let others take up the slack elsewhere 4. It's okay to take a break when overwhelmed.
Yup. This is where I note to people that the "books vs audiobooks" debate is a nonissue for the vast majority of authors, we're delighted you come to our work whatever the format. Also audiobooks opened up a whole new revenue stream for us, which we also, you know, tend to like.
And it's OK if you read audiobooks because reading physical books is too slow or difficult. My brother finds reading physical books a challenge, but tears through entire series of audiobooks and loves it. He's just now discovering he likes science fiction.
As excited as I am to see #Halloween stuff in stores, a lot of this is too “cute pumpkins” and not enough “memento mori” #moreskullspls
There is a lengthy pro-AI screed in the latest HWA newsletter and it is . . . a mood.
"...prompting your way to art or to writing is not the same as having a new tool that allows you to make art or tell a story. AI, here, is not a tool — It’s not allowing you to do the work. You’re allowing it to do the work. Which is to say, you’re the tool." 🔥
Professional writer organizations should not send out pro-AI propaganda in the form of tantrum-having "essays" to their members, and I don't think that's controversial.
I feel like the modern whimsigoth and y2k styles are seriously underestimating the appropriate amount of dragonflies in their inspiration eras. Seriously, there were dragonflies everywhere.
Ate a popsackle today and thought about this tweet
So far, I'm at 3/4 of these (no thunderstorms yet!), but I have a delightful addition to the list: reading a book to my kiddo in a pillow fort
Really excited for unstoppable summer fun such as: sitting outside reading a book, sitting by a pool reading a book, sitting inside during a thunderstorm reading a book, sitting under a tree reading a book
Imagine cancelling your cake-tasting event because you thought fans of cakes would show up. This post is about Stargate.
✨The Shortlist 2026!✨ DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL, Matt Dinniman THE DREAM HOTEL, Laila Lalami LUMINOUS, Silva Park THERE IS NO ANTIMEMETICS DIVISION, qntm WHEN THERE ARE WOLVES AGAIN, E.J. Swift THE SALT ORACLE, Lorraine Wilson This year’s winner will be announced on Weds 12 August.
The best thing about querying is that I get to work on a new WIP while I send my prior book around #amwriting #writesky #amquerying

There's nothing like the excitement of signing up for the summer reading program at the library. Mine has one for the adults, too!
Very annoying that the best way to improve anything is consistency. Just day after day effort. So boring and unsexy and yet so effective.
