A Quixotic Game Designer in Exile xeneth.design - He/Him

I was JUST thinking about the tyranny of indie game dog petting, and what a MOVE it would be to respond to player attempts with an escalatingly implausible series of canine evasion gags (much as I hate to indirectly channel the spirit of Bequerel...)

making a video game where you can’t pet the dog and also the dog dies so i get 500 billion downvotes on reddit

Wait, so at some point the titular axe got edited out of the poster for So I Married An Axe Murderer, and that stuck all the way through to streaming platforms despite it ruining the entire premise of the image? Was some executive like, "that fake hand's too fake, remove it!?"

Movie cover key art for Mike Myers' So I Married An Axe Murderer, featuring the leads holding hands while Myers holds a bouquet behind his back... for some reason, Nancy Travis other hand brandishing an axe has been edited out, breaking the conceptual symmetry of the cover. The original movie poster key art for Mike Myers' So I Married An Axe Murderer, with both fake hands and behind the back props intact.

Oh my god, @nthcircle.bsky.social it's ALREADY a legal drama alternating between investigation and court scenes, there's no reason to flash your credentials like this, unless... ...some sort of "test reference," so you can see in real time which streamers share your background, perhaps?

Screenshot from the visual novel Of The Devil, depicting the character Serra delivering the line, "This is a rolling ladder, a kind of stepladder-not a ladder." in clear and blatant reference to a series of inane running jokes from the Ace Attorney games.

Apparently it just... doesn't bother most gamers when the thing they're reading word wrap BOUNCES down to the next line as it's printing? I can't think of another reason this bug is so ubiquitous, especially in visual novels, interactive fiction, and other games that rely heavily on reading...

Given the way people refer to "SSX Tricky" like it's the name of the entire series and not just the second installment has convinced me that the third entry should have been titled "SSX Tricky 2."

Not really a fan of the way the "-punk" suffix is rapidly becoming to creative direction what "-like" has become to genre in games. Mere word glue? Shorthand's useful, as always, but it'd be a shame to lose the subtle connotation of subversion and deconstruction that "punk" had finally developed...

Well, that's hardly surprising... Here's hoping "Horizon Mini Monster Hunter" proves to be a much more fertile prompt? Most of these Sony live service ideas read like "Fast-Follow" pitches that were then inexplicably set to slow cook for half a decade, ensuring their moment has already passed...

BREAKING: PlayStation is rebooting the online game Horizon Hunters Gathering after negative playtest feedback. New plan is smaller scope, more traditional co-op multiplayer, no more live service. Yet another entry in PlayStation's ongoing live-service struggles: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

By all means, give the random breakable props strewn about your environments a chance to drop currency... Just know that pacing-wise, you're commanding a range of player archetypes to scour and break them ALL, while widening the economy delta between them and critical pathers. #GameDesign

"Live/Let live, no shade, but why is the queer community so DRIVEN to trans everything?" An organic response to being psychologically CORNERD by your fellow pack animals I'd say; parrying threats to your very identity via reflection. "So art is ammunition in a culture war?" Not quite...

In a situation that is, (naturally) very Homestuck-like, until you actually sit down with #Undertale and #Deltarune, you won't perceive the degree to which these specific works are like the creative background radiation to a third of the entire internet.

Mario Sunshine was never my favorite 3D Mario or anything, but I do NOT remember it as being particularly challenging or frustrating... Was it possibly tuned so tightly around the Gamecube controller that whole generations are being thrown by the very different analog stick and trigger feel?

Hurts to admit this, but... I keep bouncing off every Supergiant game beyond Bastion, (which I remember fondly!) Always love the lore, look and sound even if the gamefeel prior to Hades seems slightly off; and then the Hades games have some sort of gameplay clarity issue I can't seem to get past...

No hate, no dogpiling, just curious. For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

what's you "I did not care for the godfather" of games?" written above a screenshot from family guy of the family being drowned by sprinklers in their panic room.

If you're a bouncer at a club where young people go to experiment and explore identity, you simply can't let people wearing the Meta Pervert Glasses in or let folks wear them while inside... right? The little record light can easily be blacked out/disabled; the social contract needs upholding.

Now that so much of the world's data is going to be created by Generative AI, we really ought to think about how that's going to affect The Cloud... I mean, is the quality of drinking water going to change, what with that flavor of information making its way into the water cycle via precipitation?

Man, this Cory Doctorow book tour is just BRUTAL from a YouTube algo perspective if yer feed's a certain way, innit? That man's publicist/agent deserves a raise I guess.

#NineSols may prove to be one of those, "Hurry up and forget more about this faster so I can replay it, brain!" games, but the problem with that plan is just how memorable certain parts and details remain.
