Screenshots from our upcoming practical effects monster short DREAD PLANET, including some of the new sequences we completed this past weekend. There are a couple more pickups I'm wanting to shoot to finesse the film's middle section but I feel really good about its current state.

I wish making my own films paid at all. It's frustrating to technically spend hours & hours doing ~art~ but because it's my weird little films & doesn't have the financial immediacy that my illustration often provides, it doesn't feel like real work. Like in a bad way. Even though I prefer doing it.

I suspect we only have one more shot for DREAD PLANET before we finally have picture wrap, though I won't know for certain until we shoot that shot and see how it meshes with the edit.

I shot a practical element for DREAD PLANET that looked so uncanny someone assumed it was rudimentary CGI and honestly that feels like some kind of bizarre success??

It's finally slacked off now that I've built out my FX portfolio a bit but for ages whenever I'd tell people about wanting to make practical monster movies, they'd just insist I'd be better off learning to do CG instead. Even someone I dated in college would really harp on it to a weird degree.

If you see this, please tell me the worst/most baffling bit of creative feedback you've ever recieved. Mine is still the time somebody told me my aliens had names that were too alien. Not that they were unpronounceable, just that they didn't sound enough like human names.

~Gamera, like the house, always wins.~ Latest commission finally completed. Conceptually one of my favorites, logistically a nightmare to paint at the relatively small scale I work at. 😂
