He’s also always listed first, so yeah, I’d kinda expect him to be the pick over the others, but it also depends on moveset potential and uniqueness. Smash doesn’t ALWAYS choose the commonly perceived “main protagonist”; Robin, Min Min, Pyra/Mythra, etc., for example.
