🌌 The California Nebula (NGC 1499) #nebulae in Perseus is glowing about 1,000 light-years from Earth and stretching nearly 100 light-years across. Its deep red light comes from ionized hydrogen, excited by the nearby hot star ξ Persei, which floods the nebula with ultraviolet radiation.
