Steve X-Men Comics

@xmencomicssteve.bsky.social

Boxes and boxes of X-Men and X-adjacent comics. Collecting since 1986, chasing all the X-books - getting close to the finish line. Favs are both Wolverines, Storm, Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde. Also weird 80’s indie comics. Also cooking/recipe shares.

The Silver Coin is returning!! Heard the amazing news yesterday in an AIPT Comics podcast interview w/Michael Walsh. At least 20 new issues! Original 2021-2022 series: stand-alone stories each issue, a creepy connecting thread. And a killer who’s who of guest writers - see covers in pics. 10/10

Celebrating Dad’s 95th bday eating sushi and watching NFL. Don’t take any of it for granted. Pro tip: if you can’t find a 95th bday card, etiquette says just add card # s together. My Dad has a great sense of humor, loved my joke about the bonus cognitive test (maze) inside the 5th card.

Another #ShakeYourCLZ X10, very surprised and thrilled at the variety this time (prob 2/3 of the collection is X-titles or X-related). How about Tomb of Dracula #1 ?! As always: first shake of the day, first 10 shakes, no cheating.

Sixty years ago today, the starship Enterprise launched and with it, a vision of the future where humanity had moved beyond its divisions. I was there at the beginning, and I can tell you...

Missed the last couple #MondayRunday posts. Never seen that Adventure Comics run - so cool! Going with the full 22 issues of FOOM, Marvel’s 1970’s fanzine. Besides a certain long X-title, the hardest run for me to complete. Took 4-5 yrs, prob 2/3 found in the wild. #FOOM

#MondayRunday is here! Got a run you cherish? Share, share! I’m sharing the classic Fleisher/Aparo Spectre run, from Adventure Comics 431-440. Just ten issues, but they sure left a mark on the comics world. #comicsky #comicbooks #TheSpectre #JimAparo #DCComics

Comics On The Big and Small Screen Yes, every episode of Stuart Fails To Save The Universe. But… I appreciate the running gag of hiding Marvel/X-Men things in the comic shop background even though it’s an HBO/DCU adjacent show. We’re so close to Dark Claw in this scene!!!

A scene in Episode 7 of Stuart Fails To Save The Universe. In the comic shop, showing all DC merch except for sneaking in a Logan Wolverine figure in the case from Marvel

I don’t think I’ve ever felt more seen by an episode of a cooking show, for cooking/eating prefs, than right now seeing the title of S6E4 of PBS’s Relish Latkes and Kimchi Jjigae - yes please! My prev versions, for fun

Screen shot of the description for an episode of the PBS cooking show Relish (Season 6 Episide 4), ep title of Potato Latkes and Kimchi Jjigae Photo of 8 cast iron fried potato latkes, sitting on the rack of a baking pan covered with aluminum foil, ready to stay warm in the oven. Latkes are large and golden brownPhoto of Kimchi Jjigae (a soup/stew), in a shallow grey bowl, on a red placemat. The soup/stew is a dark red color from gochujang and gochugaru, in it you can see chunks of tofu, sliced kimchi, enoki mushrooms, spinach, onion. On top are some sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds

Please excuse another food post, but today at the farmer’s market I learned about the existence of Fairy Tale Eggplant. …yes, it’s called Fairy Tale Eggplant! Look how cute and pretty. And can’t wait to make something with it.

Photo of a small green carton full of about 15 Fairy Tale Eggplant, which is mostly purple with small white “stripes.” Each eggplant is about 3 inches long [yes, haha, I know that sounds funny]Photo of about 17 Fairy Tale Eggplant, which are mostly purple with small white “stripes.” Each eggplant is about 3 inches long and they are arranged in a circular pattern on a red placemat

Tonight made Chili Crisp Fried Rice, first time this type, from cookbook Chili Crisp by James Park (2023) 🍜🍽️ #homecooking Taken better fried rice pics, but AT LEAST 5X better texture (all credit: recipe) than previous attempts. Coating rice in egg yolk+sauce before sautéing works. And so flavorful.

Photo of Chili Crisp Fried Rice, on a brown and white plate, on a red placemat. Rice is a light orangish color - in it you can see cooked green onion, egg whites, minced garlic, pieces of chili crisp. There is some extra chili crisp drizzled on top, as well as roasted sesame+seaweed, chopped green onion.
