1/5 Today we sent an open letter to Middle East Minister @hfalconermp.bsky.social, signed by over 1,000 British Jews — including 22 rabbis and members of United, Progressive and Masorti synagogues — calling for a ban on UK trade with Israeli settlements.

1/This month senior Israeli public figures signed an open letter calling on the EU and the UK to end trade with illegal Israeli settlements. As they put it, the European community has opposed these settlements in words, but now is the time to act. www.the-independent.com/news/world/m...

UK must ban trade with Israeli settlements in West Bank, Israeli public figures urge

It comes as a cross-party group of MPs called on the government to implement a total ban during a backbench debate in parliament

For years, Yachad has argued that the UK should distinguish between Israel and the settlements. We have now written to Minister Falconer to show that many British Jews and British Israelis support a ban on trade with Israeli settlements. Add your name yachad.org.uk/yachad-campa...

1/6 Yesterday’s 'Great Israeli Real Estate Event' at Edgware United Synagogue prompted protests. Attempts to portray those protests as simply hostility towards Jews are wrong and risk undermining the very real fight against antisemitism that our community is facing.

1/4 Incredibly important by @melanie_ward showing over recent years 32 UK registered charities have sent £28 million to illegal West Bank settlements. Yesterday the UK gov said it would meet with the Charity Commission to discuss. But this should be just the beginning. bsky.app/profile/mela...

Funding illegal Israeli settlements is not charitable activity. It is extremist activity. Working with Israeli human researchers, I found at least 32 UK charities who have sent £28 million to settlements in recent years. There’s a likely taxpayer subsidy of at least £5 million through Gift Aid.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper sets out what the UK government is settler violence. The international community cannot condemn settlement expansion in words while allowing it to continue in practice. These actions are a meaningful step beyond rhetoric.

We welcome today’s announcement that the UK government will be taking action, including sanctions, on settler violence. We urge the government to continue working with international allies to stop ongoing annexation and to ensure a political resolution remains possible.

Ben Gvir is the product of a system that has made his conduct permissible. The actions of those officers in the video — tightening restraints in his presence, pushing detainees down at his feet — reflect a culture shaped from the top. Full statement here: yachad.org.uk/statement-on...

1/ Horrific news of a stabbing in Golders Green, which follows a series of violent attacks on the Jewish community in recent months. We pray for the recovery of those injured. Our community is understandably afraid. We need actions to ensure Jewish people are safe & feel safe.

1/ Today is Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s 78th Independence Day. For many people across Israel-Palestine this has been a particularly complex day in recent years. Jewish statehood is a cause for celebration, but Palestinian statehood seems to be getting further away.

There has been a significant surge in violent antisemitism in the UK, with further attacks over the weekend. Everyone must take a stance against this hatred. Jewish people have the right to feel safe.

Today is the eve of Yom HaShoah - when we remember the 6 million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. See this post for details on the Yom Hashoah UK commemoration ceremony. We must keep the stories of survivors alive & ensure that never again means never again

Chag Pesach Sameach from Yachad. For many, this festival comes against a backdrop of deep anxiety and concern about ongoing war and Jewish life in the UK. Yet Pesach offers a powerful reminder that a better future is possible. Wishing you a meaningful and peaceful Pesach.
