The U.S. now has an asylum cooperative agreement & another third country national deportation agreement with Honduras. Same situation w/ Liberia & Paraguay. ACAs throw asylum cases out of immigration court and other agreements deport anyone— including Afghans and Somalis—to anywhere. CHAOS

It used to be students didn’t know what the Cold War was, now have never known a time without DHS. More profoundly: I see my role as an historian working in policy to denaturalize the present. The way things are now are not how or always better than they’ve been or how they have to be in the future.

Pierre Damas Bel. A 20-year-old Haitian immigrant with ambitions of practicing medicine, playing soccer, & building a life for himself. When his TPS was stripped from him, the weight of his uncertain future was too much to bear. He tragically took his life on August 31st.

sometimes journalists learn about something for 1st time and think that it is exceptional. The reporting by Jodi Cantor on how Justices’s papers are closed for decades is not news. Guess what? Senate and House also have make papers inaccessible for decades, and other executive agencies too.

From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”
And while sheriffs and PDs often point to public safety + 'violent crime' as reasons to join, participating agencies as a whole are actually more likely to arrest someone with no criminal record than ICE.
Andrew Thrasher@tituslegaldesign.com · 2w agoAnd of those 37.5K program arrests from Oct. 1st, 2025 through July 31st, 2026, nearly half (48.8%, ~18.3K) were for people with no criminal record. And for the past 3 months (May 1 to July 31), that segment has grown to represent 58.4% of 287(g) arrests leading to ICE detention.

These agreements undermine refugee protection. They target people seeking or who have gained refuge in the U.S.— newcomers and those who’ve been here for decades and have their entire lives and U.S. families here. They also involve prolonged U.S. detention and mistreatment abroad on the U.S. dime.
