@momanyc.bsky.social is currently showing the films of legendary martial arts movie director Yuen Woo-Ping. He did a lively q&a after a screening of his new epic Blades of the Guardians and spoke with Ang Lee after a showing of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. So special to see Yuen in person twice.

The latest episode of Widow’s Bay on Apple TV with Hamish Linklater as a devilish ancestor of the island is the creepiest one yet but also so much fun. This series continues to surprise.

Today @filmforumnyc.bsky.social screened a pristine 35mm print of The Happy Time (1952), a charming and funny film about a French-Canadian family living in Ottawa with Charles Boyer, Louis Jourdan, Marcel Dalio, Bobby Driscoll. Kander and Ebb adapted the story into a 1968 Broadway musical.

My niece teaches at MIT and their computers were hacked. She spent the entire weekend trying to retrieve final papers and putting in grades again that vanished. And I’m told this happened at universities nationwide, someone trying to get personal info on students. Has anyone seen news on this?

How blessed was I to see legendary actor Tony Leung speak three nights in a row about his career and his latest movie Ildeko Enyedi’s Silent Friend in which he plays a neuroscientist with a spiritual connection to a gingko tree. At Film at Lincoln Center/Angelika.

Started watching Widow’s Bay which seems like a variation on Best Medicine with more ominous elements. This time it’s Matthew Rhys who annoys his neighbors as mayor. Entertaining though the first episode seemed a bit repetitive.

Elle Fanning’s Oscar nomination was no fluke. She’s equally fine in Margo’s Got Money Troubles. She keeps growing as an actress. It’s also fun that Michelle Pfeiffer plays her mom.

I love Schmigadoon! now on Broadway. I liked the Apple TV+ show but the stage adaptation is totally enchanting with a great cast, fun songs and lots of dancing. Please support this love letter to musicals.
