A huge thank you to all of our Local Leaders of Mathematics Education, Work Group participants and schools, for another amazing year of partnership and professional collaboration, playing our part together to improve mathematics education in England.
As the day came to an end in all phases, we announced winners for the exciting selection of prizes we had to offer, some of which were generously donated by some of our exhibitors.
The final part to our day in the Primary room was for 3 (brave!) Primary Mastery Specialists to form a discussion panel and answer questions about Mastering Number at KS2 and Mixed Age teaching using the curriculum prioritisation materials.
The last speaker of the day in the Secondary and Post 16 room was AMSPs @sarahdenisonmei.bsky.social who shared some interesting research and practical advice about how we can redress the gender imbalance in maths.
We ran out of time to post the last few parts of our conference yesterday so here they are. In Secondary and Post 16 Sarah Robertson, Deputy Director of Learn SEND hub, inspired us with many ideas about what makes a maths classroom inclusive.
Another great session from Steve Wren for our Primary attendees, lots of things to think about and to take back to the classroom.
In Primary Jane Hawkins @NCETM shared insights on oracy in mathematics. We explored how purposeful talk can promote equity, deepen understanding & help pupils make meaningful mathematical connections. A great session that highlighted the power of talk in supporting children to succeed in mathematics
Next up is Steve Wren in the Secondary room. ‘Great provision benefits vulnerable pupils disproportionately’. If you get it right for the disadvantaged, you get it right for the others too. What a great insightful session.
And in the Primary room, Sarah Robertson talked to us about creating equity and inclusive classrooms for ALL children in Maths. We loved the idea of an 'enable table' to provide maths resources for all children to access and the focus on inclusion by design!
First up, a great session in the Secondary room with Jane Hawkins from @NCETM - ‘’What purpose of talk might there be in maths lessons?’’ We love ‘and another’ tasks where we really draw out as much as possible.
