We’re excited to share a first look at the new Yukon Quest 2027 route. This map represents the current planned route. As trail work continues, small adjustments or detours may be made if changing terrain or environmental conditions require them.

The Yukon Quest International Association (Canada) is proud to announce the return of the Yukon Quest in 2027. Racing will officially begin in Whitehorse on February 6, 2027, with two races for mushers to undertake one of the world’s most iconic sled dog challenges - the YQ550 and the YQ300.

The Yukon Quest legacy. The third Yukon Quest, in 1986, ran from Fairbanks to Whitehorse. The winner was Bruce Johnson of Atlin, BC, in 14 days, 9 hours and 17 minutes. Jeff King arrived 24 minutes later, and the top 7 mushers of the 26 teams that finished all arrived within 3 hours (13 scratched).

Half of the new Board members are mushers in various ways, giving us a great depth of knowledge in every facet of the sport and business:

Josi Shelley won the Yukon Quest Alaska 750 with a time of 9 days, 9 hours, 11 minutes! Jonah Bacon will be in next, currently 14 miles out of Fairbanks. Jason Mackey and Patrick Mackey are both 101 miles out. www.yukonquestalaska750.org

We had an excellent meeting in Whitehorse tonight, with a full room and positive energy - there were almost 60 people there in person and another 20 on Zoom. Volunteers stepped up to fill a slate of ten Board positions - the maximum allowed (7 is the minimum).

It's now 14 days to the Yukon Quest Special General Meeting where the work for a 2027 race will really get into gear. It will be in Whitehorse on February 17th at the Hyatt, in the Northern Spirit Room, at 6:30 pm. A new Board will be elected, and Committees formed to work on the many issues.

The Yukon Quest legacy. The second Yukon Quest, in 1985, ran from Whitehorse to Fairbanks. It was won by Joe Runyan, who came in 20 minutes ahead of the second-place musher, Rick Atkinson. Runyan took 11 days, 11 hours and 55 minutes to finish the 1,000 miles, winning him the $15,00 purse.

The Yukon Quest legacy. The first Yukon Quest, in 1984, was won by Sonny Lindner, who came in 5 hours ahead of the second-place musher, Harry Sutherland. Lindner took 12 days and 5 minutes to finish the 1,000 miles, winning him the $15,00 purse. The poster art was by Gretchen Walker.
