In Samuel van Hoogstraten's incredible perspective box you look in from 2 different angles & see 7 rooms & 3 outdoor areas of this house. Such an ingenious feat of painting. Today is Hoogstraten's day.

This stings a little until you recall that one of the things those Philosophy people just made up was Sociology.
Let’s be honest. If Philosophy hasn’t been ‘liquidated’, Sociology will not be. For all the criticisms, at least Sociologists collect data. Meanwhile the Philosophy people just make things up out of thin air. Just whatever they want. Doesn’t matter.
A new paper out (open access), co-authored with Chris McCarroll. We presented this at the first Eurasian Memory Meeting in Taipei (March 2024). Thanks to many for questions and comments. Nice to see it finally out. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Found a philosophy themed crime novel in a charity shop today. As well as its perfect title, it looks like the killer names all their victims after philosophers 😆 #philsky "My next victim, codename Bertrand Russell, was an art lover."
At a time when organisations say that what they desperately need isn't more coders or exam takers but young people with critical thinking and independent reasoning skills, it's a profound injury to the future to allow the closure of Philosophy programmes across the UK and US, including Dundee's.

Trump half starting his silly dance move and then pulling out of it was hilarious 😂
The football gods are cruel and capricious, but surely Spain can hang on here...
I have managed to get up for this second half. Still 0 - 0, what a shock. And I guess Spain has had 80% of the possession?
Tech in sports is usually just a source of complaints (hello VAR and spider-cam), but I liked the referee view camera shots in the world cup. Gives you a nice immersive sense of what it would be like to be on the field.
First time seeing a rakali (Australia's awesome native water rat), and after watching it swim around (they really are like an otter in the water), it suddenly popped up right beside us!!
the World Cup final will be between two teams that Cape Verde played even through 90 minutes
There is a "Melbourne Philosophy of Mind Workshop" on next week organised by Michelle Liu @michelleybliu.bsky.social with talks by Michelle, Tim Bayne, Margot Strohminger, and myself. Should be fun, full details at the philevents link. #philsky philevents.org/event/show/1...

I think I have woken up early to watch the 2nd half of the World Cup semi, but my cat insists it's all about feeding him early.
Never forget that time Sam Neill gave a quote about murder that was so beautifully kabonkers, we all assumed it was a Clickhole bit initially

Feeling sad that there's only 3 world cup games left. And also sad that there is zero chance now of a new country winning it for the first time.
