Finally saw Odyssey and it’s such a strange beast for me. Flawless on technical level, perfect cast, and some brilliant recontextualizations. But I think it’s a step backwards from Oppenheimer in that the framing and editing lacks the emotional weight it had in Oppenheimer

As someone from who’s from this generation (born in 97) I can also confirm this is a real thing and it baffles me. I wouldn’t say I grew up puritanical, but my family definitely shied away from letting my siblings and I see sexual content, yet none of us ended with this problem, even as friends did
People seem confused by Will Gluck's claim that audiences don't like sex in movies & I assure you, it's a real thing. It's late millennials & Gen Z, gens raised on puritan media who believe—and I'm not exaggerating—that the characters aren't consenting to be watched, even if the actors clearly are.
I used to wonder how the Santanic Panic was possible, how people could believe something so insane with the least convincing evidence I’ve ever seen. In some ways I’m still not sure, but modern stuff has made realize they don’t need to believe it literally to think it’s true spiritually
This is the story everywhere in the US right now — insane how much changed so quickly
"The vast majority of people who work in film and television are not studio executives, nor are they famous actors. They are, overwhelmingly, blue-collar workers, freelancers, and small businesses. And they are in free fall." newrepublic.com/article/2136...
Still annoyed Hamish Linklater never got a Emmy nomination for Midnight Mass, but so freaking glad he finally got one for Widows Bay — wooo! (And Stephen Root, an all time character actor got nominated for it too)!!!
Saw Supergirl yesterday and I’ve never been so confident a shit ton of stuff happened behind the scenes. The moment to moment editing, the pacing, and structure are all so clearly designed to get it under a certain runtime and make sure it didn’t get an R-rating
Visiting family for vacation and going the longest I’ve gone in a long time without writing, working out, or being strict with my diet and workload… and I feel more motivated to hit the ground running than I have in years. Damn it’s annoying when you realize people were right about resting finally
Apple beer and vodka, or as I call it, a Midwest Anita Bryant — Happy Pride!!!
Obsession is damn good, but one look on Letterboxd reminded me that social media is where nuance goes to die
Nervous about how many young people there are in the theater for Backrooms… hoping I’m just being an old guy and they’ll be fine 😅
I work at an Ivy League and recently found out that, on top of some the students trying to sneak around steal Thanksgiving gift pies the university got for the staff (no I’m not kidding) many of them also known as some of the worst tippers in Cambridge -_-
Stanford is the absolutely most corrupting and destructive place you could possibly send your kid, judging from the NYT op-ed pages these days: www.nytimes.com/2026/05/20/o... (author is Stanford Class of 2019)
Unrelated to movie being good, feel like I look fucking great today and just wanted to show off a little for once 😂
Is God Is was fantastic — a killer blend of slow southern gothic poetry and hyper stylistic blaxploitation. The rumination on pain and legacy and beauty are compelling as can be and the cast is pitch perfect on every level… feel like I’m gonna be thinking about this movie for weeks to come
I went out to Boston for my first film gig and ended up staying because I had great friends there and incentives meant tons of productions would come through. After the strikes and general US insanity, work all but vanished, and what little there was got snapped up by more experienced people
I don't know who first said it, but film incentives are the heroin that Hollywood can't shake. The money is just too good. And that drug the CEOs can't deny themselves often destroys the lives of many of those around them. Much love to the crews of Atlanta.
Watching The Kid (1921) — Gotta say, while I think the “don’t have characters talk unless they have to” advice is overblown sometimes, Chaplin really did know how to convey so much information with one image… freaking master
I love how we’re living in era where one post from the president can make me go from “sure, maybe I’ll have a beer or two with my friend tonight” to “I wonder if serve old fashions in pitcher size”
Trump: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will … We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end”
She’s saying this shit because guys like Mamdami are seeing so much success, calling it right now. Also I’m from and visit Michigan regularly… no one likes Slotkin. She’s the picture of “no-no, the answer is to tell people things were fine before and the center is the answer”
Slotkin is so gross with her "what works in the middle of the country will work on the coasts, but not in reverse" bullshit
If you think you’ll like Project Hail Mary I can just about promise you you will! Some minor nitpicks here and there, but the visuals and ambition on display are to die for! Favorite thing I’ve seen so far this year
Looking back, my favorite moment of the night has to be Ryan Coogler grabbing Autumn’s son and running him closer to the stage so he can see better! That’s the kinda thing I hope I do and the energy I give off as a director — Your crew on your set are your friends and family, always

Do you know what I would’ve given for a slow zoom on Chalamet’s face after he didn’t win?
I keep saying the same thing whenever anyone asks me which one I think should win — they’re both among the best of this decade; I’m annoyed they even have to compete with one another
Sinners and One Battle After Another were both so good that I felt chills watching them in theaters. Both basically perfect movies to me. Both remind me of the human power of art and what I love about movies, and I’m so happy we got two extremely good big budget political weird ass movies
If I had a nickel for every time Sean Penn was in a super competitive category and took home the Oscar… I’d have three nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it feels weird it happened thrice, right?
Don’t always post my Letterboxd reviews, by I like this one (ignore the lack of stars, I’m that pretentious guy who says you can’t quantify films)
This is hysterical and kinda sad, assuming no logical explanation pops up… look, I’m already said I think it’s a flawed, but there something cool under those flaws and Markiplier put everything he had into this. Baffled as to why the industry consistently seems so against it
Surprised by this Iron Lung — it feels more like a higher budget piece of outsider art than a “YouTuber movie.” The script and pacing have a lot of jank, but there’s a heart I can’t deny, plus a handful of damn cool moments! Don’t think it’ll fade like most movies with this kinda production tend to
First half of the double feature done — Send Help is everything you want it to be! Let’s see how Iron Lung is
