Formerly Biden 46 and Obama 44. Most recently Director of Implementation for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

The murder of Charlie Kirk — and the rhetoric that’s followed — has me more concerned than ever about America’s direction. I wrote my thesis on conflict in Northern Ireland. What I see here feels eerily familiar to that violent conflict between Catholics & Protestants. 🧵

If Republicans are the party of no government, Democrats cannot be the party of slow and cumbersome government. Inability to build housing pushes families out of cities. Slow renewables and transmission buildout leads to higher energy bills. Expensive, delayed projects sap support…

"If progressives put making government work not on the periphery of the movement’s agenda but at its center, voters might be less vulnerable to the sirens of the populist right," Marc J. Dunkelman writes:

It's incredibly sad to hear hundreds of EPA staff are being fired today without cause, without due process, and with disregard to the impacts for public health and the environment. It's too early to know the specifics but a random walk through EPA press releases shows the important work at stake:

Monday #FundingFreeze Status: Clear as mud. At the end of last week, some grantees started to have access to their accounts restored. Then, on Friday evening EPA sent an internal communication directing a "program review pause." Some of those same grantees had their funding turned back off today.

In a positive update on Friday afternoon, EPA's acting deputy administrator has issued a directive to release "any disbursements on open grant awards that were paused." It appears that a growing number of IRA grants are regaining access to their accounts after two weeks of chaos and disruption.

It's been two weeks since the Trump Administration froze $20+ billion for EPA's climate and environmental justice programs. Projects across the country are now either paying out-of-pocket to float the federal government or shutting down operations. #FundingFreeze

Administrator Regan created the EJ Office to bring together disparate functions across EPA and ensure the Agency was working effectively to help ALL communities facing disproportionate adverse health and environmental impacts. Most, if not all, staff are now on Admin Leave and their future is TBD.

A truly disheartening move. Aside from these employees, the people most affected by this are those disproportionately affected by environmental pollution, as noted in the article.
