Flipping the standard formula, we primarily follow the killer as he flees his crime, ending up at a bording house. If you've seen late Franco era Spanish films, you'll be familiar with the struggle to sort out repression and trauma by way of unusual thrillers. I like this somber mood. 📽

Surprised by how much I actually did remember once I started watching. This one's okay. The main downside is that it tries really hard to have an emotional core, but it never really gains traction. Many of the plot beats are similar to the first, which may just be a trait of prison movies. 📽

Sato once again uses the poetry of existence, where beauty is found in surprising places and tragedy seems inevitable. He also makes it a variation of the vampire/AIDS story (which were somewhat common at that time). It's astonishing how much he can pack into 62 minutes. 📽

The first half is a light drama... then it becomes apparent that some will resort to kidnapping and murder to get the tournament winnings. While the women enlist the men to help fight the bad guys, they do some brawling themselves. Pretty fun. 📽

Interesting structure to thos one. Not a straightforward ghost revenge tale like the other Sundelbolong movies. And of course, there's a song by Bokir that has the comically weird effect of attraction some nearby people. Spooky mystery, comedy, and drama. 📽

Sure, you could say it's an unnecessary remake, but the way it's used serves to alter the trajectory of the remaining films in the series. Enough is changed, including the pace and tone, to fit in well with the '60s films. And it's great to see Gert Fröbe back as Lohmann. 📽

I love this type of Hong Kong comedy. It's largely made of small gags that build on the theme. And this movie has so much absurdly! It eventually gets to the magic showdown you expect, but it comically subverts things in a few unexpected ways. It made me laugh a lot. 📽

After the bombs start falling, you'd really better watch out for beatniks! It's a decent little thriller, set off balance by a fun, swinging Les Baxter score. Watching Ray Milland go quickly from wholesome dad to a take-no-chances survivor is pretty fun.
