It's obviously more complicated than this, every kid has different obstacles and predilections, but it is also true that fewer families than you'd think do or prioritize any of this stuff.

I think what people fail to realize is that soccer isn't linear up the FIFA rankings. The talent gap of Belgium to France isn't half. Imagine the NBA, where the US could reasonably select from 100 players and create an elite team. That's the reality for a few at the top.

Okay. I'm going to bed. The US was dominate in basketball until now it is not. The US was dominate in baseball and is not considering the level of foreign players who are equally as talented. We do not have the same thing in soccer despite how big we are. Night.

Imagine if you were to make an NFL team out of only players who were born in Florida. It would be a very good team, all out of a population in the mid 20M. Now imagine European powers with many times that population and hyper focus on soccer.

Mexico has about 40% of the US population, soccer is much more important culturally, and they're basically at the same level as the US. It is not easy to become a power on the level of top European countries.

The US has never had a world class keeper and Balogun is levels away from being a world class striker. The issue with today wasn't the keeper or the attack, it was horrendous play in defense and I guess midfield too.

He had to be injured because he played like ass. And the US will never be world class without a world class goalie (we’ve had before) and a world class striker (Balogun on his way?) Too hard to beat teams if you can’t score. Too hard to beat teams if your goalie makes an unforgivable mistake.

Christian Pulisic is legitimately good and a key player for AC Milan, who he joined after playing well for one of the top 6 in England. We lost, it happens.
