A quick reminder for the 3-year anniversary of this blog post: "KMM" is deprecated. As in, we no longer use "KMM" to talk about Kotlin Multiplatform for the mobile use case. It's all just called KMP now!
Update on the Name of Kotlin Multiplatform - The JetBrains Blog
From now on, “Kotlin Multiplatform” (KMP) is the preferred term when referring to the Kotlin technology for sharing code across different platforms, regardless of the combination of targets being discussed.

Having a 1 TB SSD means I can only try developing projects in one ecosystem at a time. There simply isn't enough storage to pull the dependencies for mobile things *and* Docker images for something backend-related at the same time...
If you have a "copy link" feature and you don't inject garbage into it... Thank you ❤️
Turns out that learning to create THING slowly, manually over time lets you gain experience with THING, and you can develop a fundamental understanding of what actually makes THING good. If the cost of creating THING drops to ~0, these skills and *taste* are what really matter.

What's your best advice for building things with KMP? Wrong answers only.
Boring advice, but important: be sure to keep your tools up-to-date to get the latest and greatest tooling features for Kotlin Multiplatform! For example, Android Studio Quail is finally based on IntelliJ 2026.1, so you get some new goodies with the KMP IDE plugin there.
I don't love it when conferences start accepting talk submissions before their CFP is closed. If you're going to do this, I think the CFP should clearly state that the final deadline is not the only one, and that earlier submissions will have a better chance of making it in.
KMP requires an umbrella module for native iOS integration, but what if you want to version/update multiple features independently? 💡 You can publish klibs of your KMP features (no binaries), and then build a final umbrella framework in the iOS project:
