Nothing but contempt for "bring me solutions, not problems." You start with an understanding of the problem and not only will you find a better solution, you'll likely identify 2-3 other issues along the way.
@propublica.org reporters started their own private schools in a few states. It's remarkably easy. Do you want to know if you could open one of your own? Take our quiz! projects.propublica.org/private-scho...

I went and got the data. Here’s the raw series, which is noisy because tourism is highly seasonal. The catastrophic effect of Covid is obvious, followed by a recovery to lower levels. There’s also evidence of a substantial Trump effect from Canada. We can apply a more sensible smoother to see.
NEW: We learned that the rules for starting a private school vary wildly across states. Some require background checks and specific qualifications. Others invite anyone with a dream and a pulse. See where your state draws the line. Take our quiz and share your results ⤵️

NEW: We’re reporters, not teachers. We have no business running a private school. But to show you just how easy it is to start one, we decided to test the process ourselves.

I'm sorry, I do not acknowledge controversies where I have not heard of the main guy beforehand.
Oh no, so sad to hear this. It was a great team, and some great humans.
Some sad news: Axios has eliminated their #dataviz team, which means I have a few former colleagues who are going to be looking for work. @daniellealberti.bsky.social was one of the best managers I’ve ever had and her eye for hiring the right people to round out a team is second to none.

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.
Hook and Squeeze

According to Similarweb (the source cited for this data), ~27% of Threads' alleged half a billion monthly active users came from Taiwan (or ~135M people) Taiwan's actual population is ~23 million
When I was thinking about what kind of software we'd need in the AI era, I thought, "a Kubernetes for people, to capture their inputs and outputs in preparation for replacement." But this is not only dehumanizing, but it does exist in a dozen ways.
The AI code is so much better than a human could write! Do not look at it, though! I beg you not directly at it, or you will spend all day fixing it.
