I don’t think Europeans fully grasp just how right wing the Democrats are in the US. We joke about it. They’re right wing relative to Europe etc. But there’s a lingering notion that The’ll eventually wrestle control from the GOP. Just to explain. The Democrats are the GOP of 20 years ago.

I wrote to a site that is churning out really bad AI generated articles and pretending they’re written by a human. And they didn’t even have the decency to have AI write a response to me. So I just posted the email to Claude myself to get a reply. It agrees the website is shit.

Sone people wring their hands that a kid might see a gay parent or a trans parent and get messed up. They never said shit about alcoholic parents, workaholic parents, racist parents, xenophobic parents, gun nut parents. They don’t want to help poor parents, sick parents, depressed parents.

I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.

100,000% This. The REAL WORLD is the ultimate bubble. If I'm chatting with friends in a pub or restaurant and some asshole comes along "hey, I'm just asking questions, are you afraid to debate me?" he gets told to fuck off. Bubble's are the norm. Social Media that doesn't get that dies.

Sorry to harp on this, but these CEOs keep bringing up the idea of a "public square" and I don't think they've ever been to a public square. I don't have the right to talk to anyone in a real-life public square! People get to tell me to go away.

I finally gave up trying to finish Yesteryear. I had tried skipping the “modern world” chapters and trying to get to the end. But eventually I got tired of the old world chapters too. I finally just read the synopsis on Wikipedia. Good for those who like it. Not for me I’m afraid.

I haven’t noticed this widely discussed, but it’s well known that Glen Hansard credited a Bob Dylan cassette with getting him into music as a teen. He was a lifelong fan. On July 29th 1966 Dylan crashed his Triumph motorcycle. Hansard’s accident happened July 29th 2026, on his Triumph motorcycle.
