3) Until the investigation began, he didn't appear suspicious at all. In fact, his last three social media posts were photos of him with the AKP government officials. 4) Lastly, the case is still under investigation, so it's not yet clear how many of the allegations are true.
1) During the February 6 earthquake, there were very few secular aid organizations available (and that's still the case today). 2) Government officials and celebrities heavily promoted Haluk Levent until the investigation was launched.

A mystery: Why did secular Turks trust a gambling-addicted rockstar with their earthquake aid over Red Crescent officials appointed by the government for whom LGBT people are "instilling paedophilic dreams into the minds of children" and who argue for women to be withdrawn from public life?

Re: the last retweet, it doesn't seem like the main characters or the Turkish press are disputing that some money was misused. As usual, however, it's being used as a pretence to arrest a load of people who committed no crime in order to punish them for defying the big Other.
I'm not going to say it's an open attack on an independent foundation that demonstrated the state's incompetence during the earthquake as well as a blatant money grab... But it certainly looks like it's that. Kind of amazing that foreign press isn't all over it. It's a hell of a story.
