Expect a talk with lots of variety (qualitatively speaking). Come for the metaphysics, stay for the mechanics.

Very happy to share that my paper, "Spinoza's Expansive Necessitarianism," has been published open access in the British Journal for the History of Philosophy. Turns out when you have a wild metaphysics, as Spinoza does, you also get a pretty wild ontology.
I'm happy to share (on Anne Conway's 394th birthday, by coincidence) that my paper, "Priority Monism in Anne Conway: Mediation through the Whole," has been published in the Journal of Modern Philosophy doi.org/10.25894/jmp...
Priority Monism in Anne Conway: Mediation through the Whole
There are passages of Conway’s Principles that treat all of creation as one integrated substance, but others that treat creation as constituted by indefinitely many substances. Recent work attem...

Sometimes I regret choosing academia, but then other times I listen to my non-academic wife go "mhm, right" on a work call for 90 minutes straight and realize I made the right choice.
Spam e-mails are getting way too advanced and personally tailored. I just received a message boasting "a new theory of aether." I nearly short-circuited as my early modern brain had to resist clicking the attached .exe file poorly disguised as a .pdf
Happy to share that my paper, "Spinoza's Simplest Bodies" has been published open access in Philosophy. Very grateful to @axdouglas.bsky.social and @asalgadoborge.bsky.social for extremely helpful comments! doi.org/10.1017/S003...

Since publishing my first paper, predatory journals have frequently sent me emails. These have always been addressed to "Dr." Harmon, even before I finished my PhD. Since passing my viva, nothing about their epistemic position has changed, but they're now getting it right. Gettier strikes again.
Kind of insane that there's no comic book supervillain whose origin story involves madness brought on by frustration with train wifi.

Def Leppard releases “Pour Some Sugar On Me” as a single 37 years ago today. It wasn’t expected to be a hit, said Phil Collen, but “strippers in Florida — God’s honest truth — started requesting it, because it was a great song to strip to, to dance to .. It took off from there. The album went #1.”

I am happy to share that I have passed my viva 🥳 so the history of philosophy has now been completed. Well done everyone!
The entire history of philosophy is basically just the buildup to my viva next week.
My paper for this year's Oxford Spinoza conference has been accepted! I felt a little bit cheeky submitting a paper since I was one of the organisers last year, but it looks like this will be an amazing lineup based on the provisional programme.
BSHP starts soon! Looking forward to being part of a fabulous symposium on Mary Midgley (very strongly represented at the conference with 6 talks on her, including a keynote 😱)! Full programme here: bshp.org.uk/site/assets/...
