I think this is an interesting point, though I would offer a slight defense of focusing on what you don't like: if you put some real thought into figuring out *why* you don't like it, you're also thinking about what you would do differently, which can itself be a fruitful creative avenue

i personally think creatives benefit from talking and thinking way more about things they *like.* understanding what you like and why gives you a direction to take your work in; focusing on what you don’t like makes a tiny negative dent in the universe of your taste at best and limits you at worst

Full solidarity with the Silver Sprocket artists. The publisher has behaved unethically and embarrassingly. Incompetent at best, but honestly it seems more like malicious and knowing exploitation at this point. Never fuck around with people's money for your expensive little vanity project.
