Retro coder and homebrew computer maker, fan of all things 6502, electronics and retro computers in general. Z80 vs 6502? I don't care they're both in computers I loved back in the day. Oric, Atari and Amiga were my childhood machines!
Trying to smooth scroll on the TMS9918a is a little tricky - need to pre-scroll all graphic elements based on where they are in the tile map. Anyway kinda got it working - now to do something with it! What do folks think could suit this kind of feature? #retrocomputing youtu.be/FrumT_-Iq7s

I'll be at retrofest 2026 in Swindon with a bunch of people passionate about digital preservation of early micros. My Oric computers will be there as well as my Heath-Robinson homebrew computer, an homage to the pioneers🤘🏽 Book your tickets now as last year was sold out! youtu.be/oKRC85vtLmk

Can my homebrew computer on breadboard control a real-world device? Yes it can!😎 This is 1980s style computing with some basic transistor interfacing to allow a pin on the homebrew's AY-3-8910 chip to control a fan!🤓 #iot #homebrewcomputing #6502cpu youtu.be/GFZZXpsBTvM

Blinkenlights are back - computers seem more 'alive' when they're flickering lights at you, and if you know what to look for it can even give an idea of what the machine is doing! youtu.be/8r3NSY7bM_w

Tweaked the game a bit - improved the backdrop graphics with a proper Death Star that come up over the horizon! This will go up on GitHub soon. I think it looks a lot better and quicker to draw than the method of drawing circles to make a Death Star! #8bitcoders #mos6502 #oric #retrocomputers
Made some cosmetic tweaks - new backdrop graphics and animation. Proper Death Star vs drawing one using circles! #oric #retroprogramming #8bitcode #MOS6502
Port of a game from dflat to native Oric - easier for folks to try using emulator or even real machine. I've made some improvements too e.g. the game music which is a decent rendition (not by me!) of a legendary electronic track. #programming #8bitcoders youtu.be/jMgaQnY0t24

Work has been keeping me crazy busy. But had a nice surprise today at an event hosted by the National Edge AI Hub at @newcastleuni.bsky.social They have a small display of computing history and I was delighted that my dear Oric-1 features!🤓🤗 #Oric-1
I have once again created a charity Retro Computer calendar for 2026!! Last year you helped raise £44 for charity by downloading my calendar. Let's try and beat that this year!! 🙏 Thank you!! loudscotsbloke.itch.io/retro-comput...

A new video showing tools to allow Oric to play Protracker 3 files in the background from C language. The Oric has a decent sound chip, I think it does a good job here, and now super easy to add high quality tracks to your games! youtu.be/tL4VNIIHSW4

Programming in C for the Oric is possible thanks to OSDK! Here I ported a program from dflat (see elsewhere about this) to C. Despite my handle, I do like C - learnt it back in early 1989 on my Amiga A500. As we know, C is still used extensively today! youtu.be/wLsLQ_LsYGU

Curious about the #SAMCoupe? The quirky British computer I've been developing on for 32 years! www.samcoupe.com Want to help support what I do? I don't do Kofi etc but grab a badge, keyring or try an issue of SAM Revival mag! Helps put a few quid in the dev kitty! www.samcoupe.com/quickshop.htm
I've modded my homebrew - too many peripherals makes it unstable I think. So no more real time clock, but kept the 6551 ACAI for serial. This video shows a custom file transfer protocol to get files from the PC onto the homebrew! youtu.be/ms-w9NC0ubs

It's been ages since I did anything with my 6502 homebrew computer, so here is a video about benchmarks against classic machines from back in the day - always a controversial topic!😂 #homebrewcomputer #mos6502 #basic #80s #6502cpu youtu.be/pQFLyB10Uj8

Ah, after ages thinking about it and feeling flush as I sold a few things on ebay, decided to scratch this nostalgic itch! Feeling like 10 years old again thumbing through this amazing book🤗 Wish I had bought it when it sold for £2.95 back in the day!
The amazing Electroniq from @0xc0de.bsky.social just keeps getting better and better. Here you can see the secrets of Apache Canyons 50fps gameplay (double buffering) via Electroniq's new "view RAM as pixels feature"
Great weekend with old and new faces at the 2025 retro computer festival in Swindon. Thanks to @heredragons.be, @shortcircuit.org.uk and everyone involved in making it happen. Look forward to the next event🙂🤘🏽
