Been working on smartglasses developments. Here's where we're at as of teatime, 27th August. 1. FlyeFit, one of the country's largest gym groups has confirmed its banned the wearing of Meta glasses on its premises - and has added the below to its rules page.

Statement from FlyeFit: The wearing, and use of, Meta Glasses is not permitted in the gym and we ask that members do not take video calls/photographs/videos on the premises or in the changing rooms or post such items or remarks on the internet that may identify another member.

Bezos' WaPo has an editorial today saying data center concerns are overblown and we should celebrate all of the benefits they bring to communities. To avoid providing the outlet more clicks, I'm not providing a link but instead pasting here its deceptions about water impacts.

Washington Post editorial claiming water concerns about data centers are overblown.

Highly recommend The Guild if you haven's seen it - amazing web series from the early days of such that I've watched too many times to count. It's really clever and funny, and had a big effect on the way I still teach narrative - I taught it for years. Can't wait for this reunion!

I need people to understand the relevant context of this policy shift is not just the genocide, but Jim O’Callaghan’s political ambitions. He is staking his claim for the top job on being seen as tough on immigration. Palestinians are the most sympathetic but by no means the only victims

For the first time in a decade the Irish state has refused more Palestinian visa applications than it  granted – while Israelis continue to benefit from visa-free travel to Ireland. The refusal rate for Palestinian applicants has quadrupled since 2023. www.ontheditch.com/palestinian-...

Finally saw The Odyssey - when the guys were in their pit feasting on sacred beef, couldn't help thinking that if John Carpenter had directed it we'd know a bit of back story, a few quirks, and 1 or 2 motivations for at least 5 or 6 of them and really care about their fates. Alas.

We could do with deyankifying the whole fucking country - starting with kicking out their military and holding their tech companies accountable. After that we tackle the laundry list of stupid shit we've imported from overexposure to US culture, starting with the jumbo clown cars.

As a Bates grad, I’ve hated having that guy as our most public intellectual over the past few years, and I’m really glad to see him go. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass, buddy.

Vincent Browne, the sculptor of Dublin's Mr Screen statue and many more iconic public art works, has died aged 78. We'll always be thankful to Browne for his work on one of our favourite sights in the fair city of film, now in residence at the Savoy Cinema. Ar dheis Dé raibh a anam Vincent.
