I’m an academic studying commemoration of 9/11 and the GWOT. Open water & masters swimming. Sighthounds. Originally from IN.

This week in class I almost blurted out “I had a dream about the accordion last night!” But thankfully managed to keep that as an inside thought.

The dog jumped on the couch to sniff John’s face. John gently cupped her head with his hands, saying, “My mind to your mind. My thoughts to your thoughts.”

It’s uncharacteristically humid and the elevator at work is broken. I’m melting into a puddle so someone please just mop me into a bucket and carry me around for today.

I’m honored to have been selected for an American Musicological Society and Library of Congress lecture. Lectures like this one draw on a collection at the LoC, and I’ll present on John Adams, *On the Transmigration of Souls*, and 9/11 memory.

Screenshot of event page at the Library of Congress for my lecture about John Adams and 9/11.

Headed to New York tomorrow to revisit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and on Friday will hear the New York Philharmonic play *On the Transmigration of Souls.*

Got a text from a friend who is a retired military historian, asking if I have plans to do anything interesting for the 9/11 anniversary. My brand is strong.

Hey music academic peeps: if you advise masters and/or PhD students, does coaching them count toward your teaching load? Or service? Or none of the above? Feel free to DM me if you’d rather.
