A lot frustrates me about the press release put out. Why is the date so precise? All C14 dates are a range - is 2950BCE the median, the start, or the end of the range? And the interpretation of the (very nice) discoidal knife/scraper as a symbol of the sun disc is many levels of bonkers.

I'm aware that there was disagreement about the article by Steve Dickinson on a potential new Cumbrian Stone Circle (@adamibbotson.bsky.social). I wonder whether this is the reason that the Autumn Issue of PAST 111 has been deleted online. I am sad because we had an article on malt in this issue. 🤔

I've read the official write-up on this apparent "recumbent stone circle in the Lake District", and I'm 99.9999% sure it's not real. Smacks of wishful thinking, there's no evidence, and not one mention of the QUARRY it sits on... plus the rock art looks unlikely. Bad. #archaeology #prehistory
