Started @chaimg.bsky.social's Building SimCity book this afternoon. Kind of astonishing the number of pings on my interests here. Sherry Turkle, game studies, situated learning, systems theory, Fred Turner/Whole Earth... just in the first chapter.

What's your (least) favorite website with egregious ads that can be blocked by AdBlocker or whatever? I want to show an example in class and have been using the Daily Mail site.
Step one or maybe two of Dance, Dance, Revolution.
Which stage of capitalism is this?
Getting a bit cranky with Corsair Cove hiding building requirements. How do I unlock like the eyepatch workshop?
"munitions" eh? What was it that the jet piloted by Trump himself dropped on people again?
Yeah we’re definitely out of missiles
Yeah, really excited for EA to get Red Lobstered. I get that there's not a lot of goodwill left for the company, but neither should it be gutted and sold for parts by private equity.
EA's annual Ebitda is around $1.5 billion, which should be enough to service the interest payments. But the publisher has told debt investors that it will cut $700 million in annual costs including $170 million in "organizational efficiencies," per Bloomberg. In other words: mass layoffs
I did a post! It's about Corsair Cove's disappointing card game mechanic. Cool game overall, let down by a feature that should have been either deeper or shallower. flickeringcolors.com/corsair-cove/

Been enjoying Corsair Cove this weekend. Brand new colony sim based on a pirate island. Nice to just play a game for a bit!
I think this is what happens after we substituted "taking offense" for "ethical/moral transgression."
The modern era is full of the bizarre argumentative phenomenon of aggressive fragility. Instead of puffing oneself up as strong, one posits oneself as glass-doll weak, such that any opposition (any talk one dislikes existing) is to be seen as unethical attack. Literally pathetic.
Serious question: has anyone spent significant time with Mastodon? (the social network not the heavy metal band :P) was it worthwhile for you? why or why not?
I've got a little writing coming out eventually about MMOs and nostalgia/time. This is a beautiful if a little bittersweet, initiative.
I really love this. Would be amazing to reconnect with folks; those early MMO days and guild life were pretty special. mmoreconnect.com
Never underestimate the transformative nature of profit extraction.
putting aside the destruction of rare books, how is digitizing a copyrighted text "transformative" for anthropic but the internet archive is guilty of infringement for the national emergency library
Seriously I would like to see some of this bubble burst - haven't updated my gaming PC other than storage since I bought it in 2019.
omg it's jumping again haha
That's it, I'm saying it as "cu-kaburra" as in "cu-cumber" from now on.
Another American saying Kook (like freaky) -aburra. It's "cook a burra"
I had some sidebar meetings with Unity Education people at GDC in 2017 or 2018, when I was running a games development degree in the Bay Area. The whole vibe was wrong - I was suddenly talking to "software sales" guys instead of game devs or education people and I've never shaken that feeling off.
Well, it finally happened! After 9 years of Unity dominance, Godot was the most used game engine for GMTK Game Jam 2026 submissions. 🤖 Godot - 47% 🎮 Unity - 34% 🛠️GameMaker - 5% 🚀 Unreal Engine - 3% ✨ Other - 11%
Australians seem surprisingly put-out by (testing) this mobile phone alert tech that has been pretty standard in the US for a number of years now. It's the kind of warnings I got when a child had been abducted in the area, or wildfires were coming through.
Shot, chaser, and another chaser. Were literally pulping our cultural history for ... what?
Ok I've been in Australia long enough that I need to sort out my home coffee situation. I'm likely to only make 1 cup weekday mornings and 2 or 3 on weekends. I'll drink it as a long black. What's a budget and noob friendly espresso setup to start with?
Natural experiment: the very first thing I see when logging into a brand-new Facebook account is Pauline effing Hanson.
Finally sitting down to create aliases on major social media platforms I don't normally use myself (and am only doing so as a researcher) and Instagram is just straight-up failing to create a new account.
Ran a quick survey in my class today (which I can't share as I have no ethics clearance) about social media use among your average Australian undergrad group. Really interesting results that suggest I should maybe do this more officially going forward.

Annoyed with my last reskeet. Didn't check the context... Perhaps this is the start of something better for the publication, but they'll have a way to travel to make up for this kind of behaviour: www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/e...
