Probably the most difficult thing YIMBYs face -- really, anyone who lives in a city -- is that government-subsidized street parking is one of the single largest barriers to affordability, safe streets, and climate action. That's because drivers view it as an entitlement, like social security. 🧵

The extremely wealthy have been pushing this idea for a long time. And corporations like Shopify operate above intl borders. The worrisome thing here, is that the ground is being laid in Canada for these desires to be stated out loud.

Also important: IT'S NOT AI. It's a weak simalacrum that is being marketed as AI because the techbros can't actually make real AI. Instead, they've painted lipstick on LLMs and are parading them around at the dance as their real live girlfriends. And we're falling for it? Really?

The "AI" bill of goods we're being forced to take on isn't some inevitability. It's not a necessary product of progress. It's an artifice, an unwanted and mostly bullshit product created by end-stage capitalism to extract profit because the corporate giants have run out of things we want or need.
