If AI existed in the 1960s there would be no Marvel Comics. If a publisher with Marvel’s track record of maltreatment of creators had an opaque projector that could mostly copy and ape Kirby or Ditko it definitely would use it. And the product? Increasing warped and distorted clones.

Today is the birthday of Trina Robbins (Aug. 17, 1938-April 10, 2024.) A writer, artist, editor, & historian, she cocreated Vampirella & helped found Wimmen’s Comix, an anthology that showcased female creators. She also worked on Wonder Woman & wrote several books on women in the comics industry.

I don’t mean to be ghoulish but it feels symbolically ominous that we failed to save the cheerleader.

If I could meet anyone in comics I think it would be Peter Gallagher from the current Heathcliff newspaper comics. They are utterly inscrutable to me. He is a surrealist. I must know his mind

If anything tends to alienate me from the larger body of comic book conversation, besides general eccentricity I guess, is opinions about John Byrne. I feel like Byrne’s statements and choices has earned him some scrutiny that comic fandom still mostly doesn’t want to discuss.
