when i hear about alaska having unprecedented heat advisories, I think about the melting permafrost and wonder how much it’s going to affect rural infrastructure it’ll be hard to build data centers on a melting tundra when the ground acts like a waterbed

we have numerous communities in alaska that lack clean running water and even more communities with sinks that look like this elect someone who will fight for our communities more than they fight for oil & gas companies

many people around the world need to relocate due to climate change. Alaska can show us how to do a good job of a difficult process. these nice kipnuk people will not be the last to face tough decisions.
one thing about me is that i love my home. i can’t imagine having to evacuate one day and never knowing if i could come back but that’s a real crisis for kipnuk, and many other alaska tribes so it’s very important that we support and vote for leaders who recognize and support this issue in alaska

TIL quinhagak’s mascot is the seahawks and halong evacuees formed teams to represent their villages while based in other communities: kwig is in bethel and kipnuk in anchorage
ᒪᑰᓯ Mark Springer@markspringer.bsky.social · 6mo agoactually it was free the wild salmon in mehs’ freezer was donated by shee atika (sitka native corp) and distributed by sitka conservation’s fish to schools program the high school got pallets of sockeye and coho filets… some of which are being used today for a sushi making class for students 🍣
