Went to see The Odessey this afternoon (after this picture was taken, so it wasn't the film that gave me this look). My verdict: It's very good, not @emilyrcwilson.bsky.social level, but good. If you like Nolan, if you like Homer, or Ancient Greek history, go see it. If you don't, don't.

On the language of Homeric Greek, and the language of a certain forthcoming film: here are a few simple observations.
I read, or better, tried to read The Hobbit aged 10 or 11. I found it tedious and boring, so I returned to one of @stephenking.bsky.social's books - which I found more compelling. To be fair: I read it all in Dutch translations.
Lincoln Michel@thelincoln.bsky.social · 3w agoThe big literary discourse on twitter right now is whether The Hobbit—a children’s book that won children’s lit awards and was literally written for the author’s children—is appropriate reading for children or in fact such a difficult book most adults can’t “get their head around” it.
It is so sad that we can barely see the pristine sky anymore, and it is only getting worse 😔

Je kan zeggen wat je wil, maar de Telegraaf heeft deze hongerige wolven wel omarmd als echt Nederlands. Bij de meeste nieuwkomers doen ze daar veel moeilijker over. (Overigens, vandaag is het festival Hongerige Wolf, veel plezier aan iedereen die erheen gaat).
