Assistant professor at Utrecht University. All things weird cell division, football, cheese. Mostly 🇫🇷, a bit 🇬🇧🇺🇲🇳🇱. Terrible hockey player. Mom of 2. She|her. https://cellbiology.science.uu.nl/research-groups/agathe-chaigne-cell-division-
I feel an immense pressure on my shoulders. Grant interview? No. Imminent deadline? Think again. I'm making... A cheese soufflé.
I'm quitting my academic job to start a lucrative consulting gig for national football coaches. I'm going to make millions on my new disruptive groundbreaking idea called "Midfield".
What a fun time to realize I really need to wear my progressive glasses!
Asked my 4 yo what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he replied "steak tartare" in his lovely americano-dutch accent. My job here is done.
This is probably the last time I post here, I have entered an Editorial Manager infinity loop where I both don't exist and exist with a different password and I will probably become anti-matter soon
Unpopular opinion: It's way too hot to be arguing on bluesky
I made WAY TOO MANY mini donuts for my daughter's birthday so my kids are now going door to door proposing donuts to all the neighbors, it's like I'm running my own little drug cartel. (Can of beer for scale)
Is it because I skipped the conference party last week?
Very exciting first half of day 2 at #EESMechanobiology. A recurring theme in cellular mechanobiology today: the role of ECM!
So stoked for these 2 great scientists and friends! Many congratulations 🎉
Congratulations to Gautam Dey (EMBL) and Omaya Dudin (University of Geneva) for being awarded the EMBO Gold Medal 2026 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the #LifeSciences in Europe! 🧪 https://www.embo.org/press-releases/embo-gold-medal-2026-awarded-to-gautam-dey-and-omaya-dudin/
Despite recent bike drama, I'm on my way to (and excited for) #EESMechanobiology! Get in touch to talk about cell division, cell mechanics, Arsenal's PL title, prospects of the Oranje at the world cup, or anything silly.
Sad that I will miss the embo workshop "the rules of the game" meetings.embo.org/event/26-cel..., but excited that Babette from my lab will get the chance to present her work in my stead. My 6yo got into a horrible bike accident on Saturday and cut her foot real bad-she's ok now but needs help!
The rules of the game: biophysical & molecular principles in cellular evolution
Cells are the fundamental units of life, shaped by evolution into a remarkable diversity of forms and functions. Much is known about the roles of genes and proteins, the regulation of molecular proce…

If you want to play world cup Fantasy football, I created a league "Scientists who football"!drop me a message and I'll send you a link!
Between being a parent and academia, sometimes we get so little positive feedback that when my hygienist said "your teeth are great, keep doing what you're doing" I almost cried 😅
Thank you to my workout app, which sent me a notification to suggest that I should celebrate the upcoming mother's day with a special "mom workout".
The (extremely critical) 6 year old told me "wow you look cool mama" so I am never changing out of this outfit.
Proud to announce that after scoring a grand total of 0 goals all season I scored a hat trick at scrimmage and I am quitting ice hockey while I'm ahead.
Happy "one day a year that the university is closed but school and daycare are open" to those who celebrate! I'll be celebrating it volunteering at school this morning because I am stupid.
Slightly miffed that amidst all the (various and elaborate) stuff I cook my kids' favorite and the request I got for daycare Easter lunch is... Mac&Cheese. However, behold: individual Mac&Cheeses (which were a success, they're all gone) .
I swear I had nothing to do with this clay project, she made these dividing cells with no input from me. But she's definitely first in the will now.
I got myself all worked up to do a midiprep for the lab and be useful. Turns out we ran out of competent bacteria. Turns out actually not but I just couldn't find them. Folks, it has finally happened.
Are you a postdoc in the job market? Do you have a cool story in the making? You forgot to have lunch and just run your gel backwards? You can't sleep because of the prospect of applying to 100 places and getting two replies only? Apply! 🧪🐟https://www.germanfishmeeting.org/from-postoc-to-pi

Thinking about a promotional image to advertise the "From Postdoc to PI" session at the 1st German Fish Meeting, I came up with:
Super stoked that we (with @viktri08.bsky.social, Michael Stumpf and Miguel Concha) got awarded an HFSP research grant! Looking forward to diving into this exciting if a bit crazy project.
Attention scientists from all over the world🙃 The 2026 #HFSPResearchGrants are out! 🥳 117 scientists from 31 countries will pursue bold, interdisciplinary research, from #neuroscience to #ecology and beyond! 🧪 Are you one of the new #HFSPAwardees? 🔗https://bit.ly/4uGmMQ3 #sts #HFSP
We are very proud to present our newest paper on the role of Wnt signalling in abscission dynamics in stem cells! A brief thread to entice you to read Snježana’s exciting foray into signalling.

Anyone that has parented a toddler in the "not like thaaaaaaat" phase can understand the sheer terror I felt this morning when The Toddler asked me to "cut his egg".
I've been in denial, but this is the last week of my first brie-liant PhD student Snježana Kodba (defense some time in the spring/summer). We (I) were very lucky to have her and will miss her!!
