I don't deny Clark could absolutely more forceful in her condemnation of the worst actors (I hesitate to even say fans) that use her name to push racism and homophobia. At the same time, she's been on the record saying "there's no place for this" multiple times and that crowd just doesn't care.

#WNBA yep she could stop a lot of this w/a statement, after a game, sitting down with a legit reporter or just one of those practice interviews W Reporters, journalists & TV types are failing right now. They could help tamp down some of this. They know whats going but refusing to speak on it.

It was legitimately a death knell, especially considering how on the rise Pulisic’s public profile was heading into the 2018 WC. It’d be like if Caitlin Clark had the senior year at Iowa she did and then lost to Creighton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament again lol

Great reporting from Marisa here and for whatever it’s worth I can corroborate some of these stories from sources in PAC-12 land over the years. Stanford’s been rotten for some time now and of course John Donahoe hides from the press as usual.

I discussed the Natasha Cloud situation a bit in last Wednesday’s newsletter, which you can find here. Frankie De La Cretaz, publisher of the great queer sports newsletter Out of Your League, wrote a fantastic column about the subject this weekend, which you can find here. Additional reporting came from the New York Times’ Annie Costabile over the weekend, which you can find here. So think of it this way… You’ve got one of the league’s pre-eminent newsbreakers bringing you the information from what fans would consider to be the league/front office side. You’ve got one of the most plugged-in queer sports reporters in the country, who has a totally different collection of sources from other walks of life. And then you’ve got me, with some sources of my own from a variety of backgrounds in and around the W. That should probably tell you something, shouldn’t it?

I’m also a bit charged up about this because of people conflating this with Colin Kaepernick. Frankly, it’s completely insulting to even put the two in the same galaxy, let alone the same sentence.

Yeah, I think it's much more simplistic, it's def about pay. Now that she can earn what she's worth, which team has the cap space and place on a roster for her. Any other reasoning seems to be grasping for straws.

This Natasha Cloud stuff is getting into weird territory. I don’t know how you can actually quantify “interest” per se, but I will say the common belief around the W echoes Annie’s reporting that at least one team sent her an offer. You don’t offer someone you’re blackballing
