Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.

The next phase of the boom may reveal a shift in who is gaining access to the technology.

“The next phase of electrification is less about inventing some technological silver bullet than about governments, regulators and system operators creating the market rules, incentives and revenue streams that allow existing technologies to scale“. It’s time our legislators understood this!
Some reflections on how to electrify well.
I sometimes wonder if we could all get rich betting that the Supreme Court overturns every 47 court decision. Yes, we might lose a few, but all the wins would far outnumber the few losses.
A federal court says the Trump admin improperly terminated $20B in "green bank" funds — a big win for the nonprofit groups fighting to restore clean-energy and climate lending. But a likely Supreme Court appeal may delay them from getting their money: www.canarymedia.com/articles/cli... #energysky
Sick and tired of journalists asking politicians how they *feel* about the Bad Thing that just happened. Ask them what they're going to *do* about it!

US automakers will be back asking for yet another public bailout in a few years. One of many depressingly predictable recurring cycles in US politics.
The American E.V. Has Been Crushed. Will It Take the U.S. Auto Industry With It?
The largest U.S. automakers have backed away from electric vehicles, even as global sales are booming. The decision may make them obsolete.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.
A few weeks ago, the world crossed a major solar milestone: 3 terawatt installed. Why did no one notice? 0.1 TW to 1 TW: 120 months 1 TW to 2 TW: 29 months 2 TW to 3 TW: 19 months Gift link to the story 🎁🔗 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Listening to Cory @doctorow.pluralistic.net always feels shocking, because he so clearly articulates an objective reality that is aggressively concealed by almost the entirety of the media industry, not least the financial press.
Excellent long-form interview about AI. With Jon Stewart and @doctorow.pluralistic.net the writer and activist who coined the term "enshittification"—the process by which digital platforms gradually become worse for users as they prioritize profits and business interests. youtu.be/-dAIJRjb-Bw

Terrible, but will it change who they vote for or are they convinced it’s someone else’s fault than the Rs?

Max Miller released audio recordings of conversations he has with his ex wife. In one of them, she accuses him of clandestinely recording their conversations. “I have never recorded our conversations” he says, while recording their conversation. This is domestic violence. Ask me how I know.
Everyone talks about batteries as “firming” wind and solar. In this conversation we talk about why batteries make fossil better. Storage makes the ENTIRE grid run better fossil, nuclear, everything and treating it as a renewables-only cost is the wrong mental model. 🧵
Nobody buys backup power because they care about your carbon footprint — they buy it because the lights stay on and the fuel bill drops. Jigar Shah on why climate progress is just better products winning on the merits.
We haven’t even talked about EVs. As they continue to scale you now have GWHs of local batteries in your garage. That battery is not just driving you around, it is insurance for the outages. Aggregated into a VPP, it’s a grid asset 364 days a year. The “grid” can pay you $10,000 for that resource.
So stop saying storage is a cost you tolerate to make wind and solar work. It’s the thing that lets the grid run at peak efficiency, wires carry more for the same steel in the ground, and every home now becomes a MicroGrid to protect your family. Renewables just have amazing engineers that Deploy.
I’m in today’s @richmond.com opinions page. The SCC should reject the proposed Next-Era Dominion merger.
I’m not a fan of Dominion, but even less of a merger with an out of state monster that would result in even less accountability. So thank you Sen. VanValkenburg. Now can you get all your fellow D senators and delegates to join you? 🙏🤞🙏

However horrible you think the Tate brothers are, I promise, it's worse than that. It's insane that Dems aren't making a bigger deal of the GOP embracing these grotesque monsters.
