Virginia resident, climate crisis activist trying desperately to convince residents and business owners in my town to address the climate crisis before our town ends up like the “climate haven” Asheville, NC.

Sick and tired of journalists asking politicians how they *feel* about the Bad Thing that just happened. Ask them what they're going to *do* about it!

Listening to Cory @doctorow.pluralistic.net always feels shocking, because he so clearly articulates an objective reality that is aggressively concealed by almost the entirety of the media industry, not least the financial press.

Excellent long-form interview about AI. With Jon Stewart and @doctorow.pluralistic.net the writer and activist who coined the term "enshittification"—the process by which digital platforms gradually become worse for users as they prioritize profits and business interests. youtu.be/-dAIJRjb-Bw

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Max Miller released audio recordings of conversations he has with his ex wife. In one of them, she accuses him of clandestinely recording their conversations. “I have never recorded our conversations” he says, while recording their conversation. This is domestic violence. Ask me how I know.

Everyone talks about batteries as “firming” wind and solar. In this conversation we talk about why batteries make fossil better. Storage makes the ENTIRE grid run better fossil, nuclear, everything and treating it as a renewables-only cost is the wrong mental model. 🧵

Nobody buys backup power because they care about your carbon footprint — they buy it because the lights stay on and the fuel bill drops. Jigar Shah on why climate progress is just better products winning on the merits.

We haven’t even talked about EVs. As they continue to scale you now have GWHs of local batteries in your garage. That battery is not just driving you around, it is insurance for the outages. Aggregated into a VPP, it’s a grid asset 364 days a year. The “grid” can pay you $10,000 for that resource.

So stop saying storage is a cost you tolerate to make wind and solar work. It’s the thing that lets the grid run at peak efficiency, wires carry more for the same steel in the ground, and every home now becomes a MicroGrid to protect your family. Renewables just have amazing engineers that Deploy.
