“The famine is over! The curse be damned!! Hit the nuclear button! Mayo have won the All-Ireland!!” An all-time great sports commentary moment from Stephen Grealis and Martin McHugh on Mayo’s Midwest Radio. #gaa

For those asking about VAT: similar directives require motor fuels to be subject to the ‘standard’ rate of VAT, which in Ireland is 23%. Lowering VAT on motor fuels means having to cut the 23% rate for everything. Each 1% cut would cost the State €684m per year and reduce a litre of fuel by c. 1.7c.

Just worth saying, for absolutely legal clarity: the government does not have the legal prerogative to abolish carbon tax in its entirety. Carbon tax is a form of excise, and EU directives require excise on diesel to be a minimum of 33c per litre. (1/2)

supplements sometimes do not even always contain what they say that they do! one study (PMID 12639203) found 10% of echinacea supplements had no echinacea in them another study (PMID 37097362) found 88% of melatonin products were inaccurately labeled (i could keep listing papers, unfortunately)

although supplement products cant make claims that they can cure disease, they often use vague or suggestive language to ~hint~ that they ~might~ do something examples: "promotes well-being" "boosts your mitochondria" "improves cells" "enhance performance"
