A very abstract painting that is deliberately difficult to describe, with more details becoming apparent the longer you look.

The scene is framed by what appears to be brown trees with thin green leaves, with thick black outlines. In the trees are daisies, with yellow florets and white petals. At the top, in the middle, a pink, orange, and red sky is visible. A person with long black hair appears to be laying near the bottom.

As you stare at the painting, you notice additional details, such as grey faces staring between the trees.

Kurdish asylum seeker Mostafa Azimitabar was in mandatory detention on Manus Island between 2013 and 2021. While in detention, he began painting using toothbrushes and coffee. He used a toothbrush to paint this Archibald prize portrait of Midnight Oils musician Jim Moginie. #art #auspol
