Shocking how 'we're only 1% of emissions' has been normalised. Amol Rajan on Today just now, using it on Miatta Fahnbulleh - do they also think that we'll only experience 1% of harvest failures, or when the wildfires come, only 1% of houses will burn down? We need to be all in.

So many dropped kerbs on our street. In some cases the whole section of pavement in front of a house is a single large dropped kerb, so there is nowhere to put a street tree. Cities designed for cars are killing us.

This is why cities need trees. Hard surfaces and parked cars can reach extreme temperatures, while shaded grass and tree-covered areas stay dramatically cooler. This is the urban heat island effect in one image: hard surfaces absorb and radiate heat, while vegetation and shade reduce it.

Just been out for an early run here in Hannover. 25C at 7am but the reason I could go out is the shade - lots of trees here in lovely long avenues. The UK is going to need much more of this. And trees take time to grow, so we’d better start now!
