Last night we watched Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, my wife's first time seeing it, and she was amazed at the beauty of the model spaceships and practical effects. Far more astonishing than seeing a CGI Enterprise minutely rendered down to the last bolt

i think cgi is a great tool but i don’t think how it has been used in mainstream cinema is particularly great. by and large it is used to make the impossible photorealistic.

Freeing up some shelf space and realized I was long overdue to get rid of my Absolute Sandmans. Let's just say it's surprisingly easy to rip apart an Absolute book with your bare hands. You can tear those suckers right down the middle of the spine like you were throwing out a credit card offer

My wife has never seen ANY Star Trek, and wants to. Me, i LOVE Star Trek, but watching every episode of every show and every movie is too daunting, even for me. Instead I've had a lot of fun picking key episodes from every series—more abridged than watching everything, but not as brief as a best-of.

I've been watching Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974) for the first time and I was amazed to discover the Enterprise had a holodeck long before The Next Generation. (They called it the rec room, but still)
