Our new paper is out in @nature.com! We uncovered how a naked mole-rat queen 👑 controls an entire colony: a natural contraceptive scent that suppresses reproduction in other females! A remarkable mammalian parallel to bees and ants! 🐝🐜 @garyrlewin.bsky.social youtu.be/enfv3zJrWKM?...

“The urge to skip may be “a trade-off between speed and stability…Skipping and running both involve an extended flight phase, allowing astronauts to move with bounding leaps. But unlike running, skipping also includes a phase in which both feet are in contact with the ground at the same time.”

The first foot set on the Moon was famously one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. But did you know there was a spring in that step? And do you know why? Fun story by @phiejacobs.bsky.social for @science.org

Thanks @phiejacobs.bsky.social for featuring our work in @science.org! Why did Apollo astronauts skip on the Moon? Our study shows that reduced gravity reveals a proprioception-dependent mechanism for locomotor state selection. @alesantuz.bsky.social leading the way to the moon 🐭🚀

I've just arrived in beautiful Prato, Italy, for the "3rd Mechanotransduction, Muscle Spindles and Proprioception Conference". I'll present our work on #hypogravity #locomotion and #proprioception, now out as a preprint here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Most birds use a funny running style: grounded running. It's a paradox: GR costs more energy than normal running, but animals usually minimize costs. Do birds waste energy? We resolve this with a model of the emu (the best bird). Published in @science.org Advances last Sept (reposting my x 🧵s) 1/18

A friend just reminded me about our sensorimotor starter pack, so here it is: go.bsky.app/U4oyFgw If you're into sensorimotor control of movement and it's application this should be a good place to start. Also DM to be added, there are a bunch of spots for people to be added
Imagine mice could build little rockets and go to the moon. How would they move around up there, the little moustronauts? Turns out, they would skip around, just as human astronauts do! @alesantuz.bsky.social explains in a fascinating talk at the @mdc-berlin.bsky.social neuroscience meeting.
Want to hear about #Moon walking, #hypogravity #locomotion, and #proprioception, and are in Berlin tomorrow? Come join us at the 2026 @mdc-berlin.bsky.social #Neuroscience Meeting, 8 May, Campus Buch. I’ll be speaking in Session 1!
