the bsky design team is working on communities and looking for feedback. one core idea we have is builders should be able to create apps and websites for their communities. they shouldn't only show up on bsky. community builders: would you want to create a separate custom app/site?

there was a recent bug in the Bluesky app that caused some people's chat permission settings to switch to "No one" we already fixed the bug, but folks may want to double-check their settings to make sure they are set the way they want. go here: bsky.app/messages/set... look for these settings:

people love the For You feed, and it shows in the numbers. it generates around 4% of post views inside feeds on Bluesky. that's amazing especially because it's operated by one dev, @spacecowboy17.bsky.social given its popularity, we've decided to give it a bump in visibility on the feeds page.

the sign in page now auto-detects your hosting provider which makes signing in to Bluesky much easier for those who have accounts hosted elsewhere. no more clunky hosting provider field above the sign in form that you previously had to click and configure. great work as usual by @samuel.fm

I used to dream for times like these 😭. This would of been life changing in August of last year, onboarding so many people to new PDSs. Still is and extremely happy to see it live!

i'm working on a sign-in form prototype that automatically resolves your host from the handle you enter. here's a demo with some test cases: 1. handle not hosted by Bluesky 2. invalid handle 3. email address instead of handle 4. setting a different host for #3 thoughts? am i missing anything?

how do you want to see notifications improved on Bluesky? we're investing a design cycle into improving the Notifications page. tell me what would make this page more useful for you.

We recently bumped the threshold where we stop sending notifications for replies from 5 replies deep to 100, which took some users by surprise. This was too big an increase, and we've rolled this back to 5 for now.

communities are coming to Bluesky this year. today, Bluesky is one big space. communities will be smaller spaces inside that where you can go deeper and hang out with people who care about the same stuff.

ok so, when we rolled out the photo carousel last month, people had a lot of feedback. we listened and rolled it back. our team discussed all the feedback and came up with a new plan. i’ll thread each decision so we can hear your thoughts about each one.

ok yall, we hear you. the carousel isn't popular! we're putting it back in the oven and will plan to bring it back for posts with more than 4 photos or videos when we add support for that. appreciate the feedback. we really want you to love this app.

maybe you’ve heard the rumors, or maybe you noticed the new split layout for chat on desktop. i’ll confirm it: group chats are on the way, and landing pretty soon too. it’s part of our move toward building for communities and closer social connection here.

we’re rolling out the first phase of the Bluesky + standard.site integration today! now, when you share an article from writing platforms that support standard.site (like @leaflet.pub, @pckt.blog, @offprint.app), you’ll notice the link card has more to it than a typical link card.

v1.122 is rolling out today, featuring a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic Standard.site link cards. 🧵
