the bsky design team is working on communities and looking for feedback. one core idea we have is builders should be able to create apps and websites for their communities. they shouldn't only show up on bsky. community builders: would you want to create a separate custom app/site?
there was a recent bug in the Bluesky app that caused some people's chat permission settings to switch to "No one" we already fixed the bug, but folks may want to double-check their settings to make sure they are set the way they want. go here: bsky.app/messages/set... look for these settings:
people love the For You feed, and it shows in the numbers. it generates around 4% of post views inside feeds on Bluesky. that's amazing especially because it's operated by one dev, @spacecowboy17.bsky.social given its popularity, we've decided to give it a bump in visibility on the feeds page.
stoked to build the next era of Bluesky with @toni.bsky.team!
Staying in the game I'm four months into my interim CEO role at Bluesky, and it's time for an update. Most importantly, as of today, the interim part of the title is gone. I'm... https://toni.org/2026/07/10/staying-in-the-game/

the sign in page now auto-detects your hosting provider which makes signing in to Bluesky much easier for those who have accounts hosted elsewhere. no more clunky hosting provider field above the sign in form that you previously had to click and configure. great work as usual by @samuel.fm
I used to dream for times like these 😭. This would of been life changing in August of last year, onboarding so many people to new PDSs. Still is and extremely happy to see it live!
this was a big project and a much needed upgrade. well done @treethought.xyz @ds.bsky.team @esb.lol @darrin.bsky.team & team!
v1.127 is live! We're rolling out improvements to search over the coming weeks. You'll get more relevant results and more ways to find what you're looking for. The new "Filters" button lets you query and filter by keywords, people, date range, language and more. You can even share your searches!
we're rolling out an upgrade to search. if you notice bugs with search or results that feel off, let me know
i'm working on a sign-in form prototype that automatically resolves your host from the handle you enter. here's a demo with some test cases: 1. handle not hosted by Bluesky 2. invalid handle 3. email address instead of handle 4. setting a different host for #3 thoughts? am i missing anything?
we're working with @rayf.bsky.social on the Notifications page design send him some engagement so he can see what it's like when the Notifications page doesn't work that well
how do you want to see notifications improved on Bluesky? we're investing a design cycle into improving the Notifications page. tell me what would make this page more useful for you.
who else is interested in this idea?
I wonder if there could be a way to subscribe to notifications on someone else's post. Like, if someone asks a great question and you wanna read the answers, but no one has replied yet, you could say "Get reply notifications" (Slack has that option).

if you're having issues clearing your chat notifications badge, read this
About unread chat badges on the nav bar. We recently changed how chat unread counts work. Before: we would get the 31 (IIRC) most recently messaged convos and see if there were any unreads among them.
if you could save a search in the Bluesky app and pin it so it shows up as a tab on your home screen, would you?
the Bluesky design research team wants to talk with people who are interested in building communities. if that's you, submit this form! your voice will help shape what we build. docs.google.com/forms/d/1ej6...
Bluesky Communities Research 2026
Bluesky is conducting research to better understand how these groups form and grow on the platform, as well as what they need to thrive. We’re looking for active users to participate in a 45-minute 1:...

RIP David Hockney one of my art heroes. Mulholland Drive is my fav cover photo for roadmap docs.
new north star: DPPF (dril posts per feature)
[at the project retrospective] yeah so here’s the first dril tweet. and here’s the second dril tweet
We recently bumped the threshold where we stop sending notifications for replies from 5 replies deep to 100, which took some users by surprise. This was too big an increase, and we've rolled this back to 5 for now.
communities are coming to Bluesky this year. today, Bluesky is one big space. communities will be smaller spaces inside that where you can go deeper and hang out with people who care about the same stuff.
ok so, when we rolled out the photo carousel last month, people had a lot of feedback. we listened and rolled it back. our team discussed all the feedback and came up with a new plan. i’ll thread each decision so we can hear your thoughts about each one.
ok yall, we hear you. the carousel isn't popular! we're putting it back in the oven and will plan to bring it back for posts with more than 4 photos or videos when we add support for that. appreciate the feedback. we really want you to love this app.
maybe you’ve heard the rumors, or maybe you noticed the new split layout for chat on desktop. i’ll confirm it: group chats are on the way, and landing pretty soon too. it’s part of our move toward building for communities and closer social connection here.
more improvements to photos on Bluesky are on the way
📣 Attention bsky lexicon atproto devs 📣 We're working on a new post embed type we're calling a "gallery". It will support up to 10 images to start, and may support videos in the future. If you've got questions or comments, please drop us a line in the GitHub Discussion!
I know this was discussed a while ago, but I want to reiterate this: "To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago." www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...
EFF is Leaving X
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X. This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue.

we’re rolling out the first phase of the Bluesky + standard.site integration today! now, when you share an article from writing platforms that support standard.site (like @leaflet.pub, @pckt.blog, @offprint.app), you’ll notice the link card has more to it than a typical link card.
v1.122 is rolling out today, featuring a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic Standard.site link cards. 🧵
