This is the kind of warm fuzzies it's nice to get for a blog post called, "I was a teenage Camper Van Beethoven wannabe." #CamperVanBeethoven alexgalt.com/2026/07/19/i...

Yup, and we can blame it on the studios slow-walking the Writer's Guild back in 2007. Who knew that would be the ruin of civilization?
"Reality" TV was the worst thing to ever happen to America...
Just learned that Glen Hansard died today in a motorbike crash, 56 years old. In addition to being a great songwriter, he was a great interpreter of Jason Molina’s songs. I loved him for shining a light on another artist who does too damn young.
If you know Italian, this is an astonishing doc about new finds at Pompeii. The entire things is done in one shot, with experts joining the host for walk and talks. It's always in motion. I wish more things were filmed like this. Check it out.

My kid, Frida, and I declared it Frida and Alex's Fossil Summer 2026, and I've been posting field reports to my blog. Each of these has a tinned fish review as well—tinned fish is the official snack of Frida and Alex's Fossil Summer 2026 (FAFS26). So far, we like all of the tinned fish.

The Ridges are magical. If you're near Door County, you should check them out. Here are a few photos I've taken there over the years. #Wisconsin #DoorCounty #Photography #TheRidges #NatureImitatingArt #Rolleiflex #FujiXT1
A visit to the Ridges in Baileys Harbor is free of charge tomorrow. It'll stay that way on Fridays till the end of August.
This is unconscionable. I've been to Chaco Canyon twice and it's incredible. Tthe landscape is part of the meaning, there really can't be a "buffer zone" large enough. Filling this it with oil wells would be an obscenity. Consider leaving a public comment. #BelieveInFilm #Rolleiflex
Please blow up the public comment (included below): BREAKING NEWS (7/15) — The administration wants to destroy Chaco Canyon without consulting Tribal Nations. It’s an irreplaceable historic & cultural site with 4,700 archeological sites that could be lost to the bulldozers of oil & gas development
A nice writeup on one of my personal faves. I saw Cat Power perform at the Cooler in NYC in 1995 before I ever heard any of her records, she made a big impression on me. All of her records have their moments, but I think this one is her most special.

This Mark Twain quote is one I've been thinking a lot about with the 250th. "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it." I love this country. Truly love this country. But right now, our government does not deserve our support.

Hey, if you're a #catperson, we have a cat shelter in need of financial help here in Green Bay. Their building partially collapsed during a torrential downpour yesterday evening and they have a lot of needs.
A downtown Green Bay building housing Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary has been condemned after its roof partially collapsed during storms on June 24.
It's #ShowYourStripes Day. This is for Milwaukee, WI, since Green Bay is too insignificant for their drop down menu ;) It felt like we were making some real progress about five years ago, and yeah, Trump's a bummer, but I'm not hearing about #AGW much from Democrats at this point. This is real.

“Sunlight has to travel 93 million miles to reach the Earth, but none of those miles go through the Strait of Hormuz,” says @billmckibben.bsky.social. “That makes it a very appealing alternative, especially now that it’s cheaper than burning coal and gas and oil.”
The price of unleaded gas where I live broached $4 for the first time EVER this week.
Scott: "The fact of the matter is that all of the cylinders are kicking. It is good news. You can even feel in our environment how good things are getting. Gas prices continue to come down, which means your groceries will come down a little bit as well. We've got a lot of good signs in the economy."
C'mon patriotic Americans! Are we going to let the French beat us????
🥰 📣 BREAKING NEWS 📣 France has announced a climate roadmap that aims explicitly to phase out coal by 2030, oil by 2045, and "gas for energy purposes" by 2050!! This is a historic moment, the first time a major economy has pledged *specifically* to phase out fossil fuels. 🙌 💚

I figured this out in my own work about six months ago and it opened up partnerships with basic needs nonprofits in my community. It was getting pretty exciting, but then my grant funding ran out... But my experience definitely supports this approach.

We lived next door to Ginny for 8 years, talked to her many times. But it was only when she died (2013) that we learned that she'd been a NYC fashion model, one of the first admin hires at the UN, had flown solo across the Atlantic, & been woman of the year at the Pentagon.

Here's a #FoundPhoto for Sunday evening. This gent and his (presumably) grandchild had their photo taken in 1919. I was taken with it because you don't often see casual photography of this quality around. Picked it up in an antique mall! The context of the photo suggests this is in Green Bay, Wisc.
