Finally got around to watching “Wuthering Heights” (2026) this evening. It was not for me in any way shape or form. I love the book. This film is not the book. Which led me to think about the nature of adaptations.

To me, great art articulates the things we feel but don’t have the vocabulary to express. Films like The Bride (again, for me) fail because they give us characters who affirm our POV back to us, never challenging or surprising us in the process.

My top 5 comfort films 1. Married to the Mob (1988) 2. Best in Show (2000) 3. Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) 4. Pet Sematary 2 (1992) 5. Halloween: Curse of Michael Myers (1995) Honourable mentions: Wishmaster (1997), Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999), Single White Female (1992), The Crush (1993)

Whenever I feel bad about *gestures vaguely around* I think of how the Predator has an elaborate wrist watch/self destruct device that they activate by going BEEP BEEP BOOP with their fresh set.

One of the (many) wonderful things about my boyfriend is that he’s a fan of the original Star Trek and alerts me to the fact that they used to have aliens like this.

Spock holding a dog in a very obvious costume with a little horn on it. Best alien ever.

Back in 2017 my ex and I were looking to adopt a cat. We went to the Toronto Humane Society and the lovely guy working the cat section told us to go to the back and look for a tuxedo cat named Loon. We headed straight back, turned a corner and saw the prettiest green eyes.

I’m very unmoved by these PR strategies that have actors play icebreaker games for the internet. Bring me back to the time when a reporter would get dropped off at Russell Crowe’s ranch for a week and have an emotional affair with him.

I love listening to GDT talk about his films but man, as a society we have to do something about the weird lighting and rendering in these Netflix films that makes them look flat as fuck. The BTS footage looks ten times better than the final product.
