After a trial over the last few years, Ireland has launched a permanent scheme giving a basic income of €325 a week for artists. 2,000 will be eligible, and successful recipients will be chosen at random from applicants, who must be "professional artists" (definition tbc).

There are actually some trying, @charlielynch.bsky.social . But it’s getting harder. My offer to collaborate on a project was turned down by musicians twice. People prefer to stay „neutral“ or do not agree with values like human rights, freedom, anti fascism. People are afraid to take a stand.

Wouldn’t it be good if rock music was creatively responding to the ghastly international situation, and the greed and chauvinism and monstrosities fuelling it. Anything to say? My expectations must be old fashioned.

Whenever I read a discussion about A"I" in #music I feel like there's a certain percentage of people who defend the blatant plagiarism of "generative" A"I" as the same thing as being influenced by the artists you listened to. There is absolutely no comprehension of artistic expression involved.
